World’s biggest surprise: “Right wing” media study tainted

deadhorse2

You may remember my post on a study by two Indiana University professors on media bias, which concluded that the media is in fact biased – toward Republicans. You may also remember my liquored rant that I left in the comments that Rufus so nicely posted as a follow up.

Copious Dissent contacted one of the study’s authors and received a chapter of the book that dealt with the “coding” technique that produced the results. As you can guess, CD found the study and the coding to be wanting.

Visual and volume of stories study are notoriously unreliable, as evidenced here. This is CD’s excerpt of the type of questioned asked by Charlie Gibson of Barack Obama and of Sarah Palin in her infamous ABC interview.  Enraging.

Obama interview:

How does it feel to break a glass ceiling?
How does it feel to “win”?
How does your family feel about your “winning” breaking a glass ceiling?
Who will be your VP?
Should you choose Hillary Clinton as VP?
Will you accept public finance?
What issues is your campaign about?
Will you visit Iraq?
Will you debate McCain at a town hall?
What did you think of your competitor’s [Clinton] speech?

Palin interview

Do you have enough qualifications for the job you’re seeking? Specifically have you visited foreign countries and met foreign leaders?
Aren’t you conceited to be seeking this high level job?
Questions about foreign policy
-territorial integrity of Georgia
-allowing Georgia and Ukraine to be members of NATO
-NATO treaty
-Iranian nuclear threat
-what to do if Israel attacks Iran
-Al Qaeda motivations
-the Bush Doctrine
-attacking terrorists harbored by Pakistan
Is America fighting a holy war?

No media expert has found a measuring stick for that. That would require weighing positive stories against negative, which would answer all these questions.

And you think the media is biased towards DEMOCRATS?!?!

Those questions show an obvious bias towards Republicans!

  • Boiling it down like that sure puts it in perspective. Holy shit!

    “Little Green Darwinists”
    That’s funny!

Doesn’t surprise me because when I saw the premise of their argument and tried to equate it with the leg hounding of Obamawan going on at CNN, PMSNBC etc. it did not make sense.

I recommend going to Copious Dissent and reading the whole article. Especially if your blood temperature is currently below 212 degrees Fahrenheit, http://copiousdissent.blogspot.com/2009/03/analysis-of-indiana-university-study-on.html

Thanks Rufus but if I look at that my blood pressure will go too high.
