Renowned Swedish doctor and statistician Hans Rosling has passed away from pancreatic cancer at 68. Rosling dedicated his life to promoting a more positive, hopeful and realistic view of the world than most people see. He spent decades arguing against harmful theories like the overpopulation myth and central planning, and later became well-known for his TED talks and other speeches challenging the media’s doom-and-gloom attitude toward world development.
Take, for instance, this fascinating video he made in which be uses dynamic visual aids to show how much more health and wealth the world has enjoyed over the last two centuries thanks to increased freedom, capitalism and globalization. If you’ve never seen it, it’s well worth the watch.
R.I.P., sir, and thank you for fighting the good fight and bringing a little more hope and truth into the world.
