Power Pop Redux

Taking a brief break from The Sandcarvers (thanks for the extra shout-out to them, Floyd!), Jason Isbell and U2 ’cause I cannot seem to put down The Smithereens, a not-so-small part of the multi-layered music from my college years. A three-fer Friday, too, simply because I can’t make up my mind which one I like better. Apologies for the dorky host in the last clip (no, it wasn’t me). It was the best quality video for the tune.

It’s too bad DiNizio and company seem to have dried up musically, too, releasing only albums of Beatles songs over the last few years. Granted, their cover of “One after 909″ back in the early 90s is one of my favorite cover songs period, but whole albums? C’mon, guys, you once deserved to be mentioned in the same power pop breath with Cheap Trick in terms of consistently putting out solid album after album. Please bring that beat(nik) back.

Bonus nod to John Nolte’s time-travel movies post at Big Hollywood (no apologies for the Jean-Claude Van Dammit, either):
