This young woman, Sarah McKinley, has been through the ringer… and she still had the presence of mind to defend herself and her baby.
When Martin kicked in the door and came after her with the knife, the teen mom shot and killed the 24-year-old. Police are calling the shooting justified.
“You’re allowed to shoot an unauthorized person that is in your home. The law provides you the remedy, and sanctions the use of deadly force,” Det. Dan Huff of the Blanchard police said.
Stewart soon turned himself in to police.
McKinley said that she was at home alone with her newborn that night because her husband just died of cancer on Christmas Day.
“I wouldn’t have done it, but it was my son,” McKinley told ABC News Oklahoma City affiliate KOCO. “It’s not an easy decision to make, but it was either going to be him or my son. And it wasn’t going to be my son. There’s nothing more dangerous than a woman with a child.”
I pray she finds peace for herself and her baby. More on the story at the link.

She appears to have had amazing presence of mind for her someone her age and she had a 12 gauge and a pistol in the house and she knew how to use them – good for her. I wish her and her son well.
That’s what I was thinking Tink. She’s been trained well. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out she has a father/brother/uncle/etc who has given her experience with firearms. Could have been her husband, who knows. That’s the kind of gun control I support. People who are well trained, intelligent and cool under pressure not missing when some dirt bag with a hunting knife is trying to rape you and kill your child. Mother of the year award voting is now closed.
Believe me when I say that nothing strikes fear into the heart of any garden variety thug like the sound of his intended victim racking a shell into the chamber of a shotgun. (I know the lady has a double barreled breakover)

The right to bear arms is the power to mete justice.
I consider the following to be a feminist statement: all women should carry guns. Why? Because a cop is too heavy.
First Tonk shot of the year to JimmyC!
Boomer? I hardly knew her!
Sorry, just had to recognize Floyd’s great post title.
About the only thing that would have made this better is if she had shot him in the crotch and then he got to explain to everyone in the prison showers why he’s missing something.
I live about 15 miles from Blanchard so we’ve been hearing about this for a few days. My guess is she’s out in one of the rural parts of the town that’s inside city limits but a ways off the beaten path.
I don’t know if it’s an accurate detail, but one of the online versions of the story I read said she gave her son his bottle before picking up the shotgun. Don’t much like reading about anyone’s death, even scumbuckets, but I really liked that scene.
