IT’S HEEEEEEERE … the final Radio Free Threedonia with a click right about here.
Helluva fun final RF3D for what were helluva fun three years. Visits from Coach Joe and Jack Marino, longtime friends of RF3D, precede segments from Penn State Alumni Club – LA Chapter’s Gary Werkheiser filling us in on Lights, Camera, Cure and Justified‘s Nick Searcy talking about the show’s Season 3 return on 1/17/12, his son’s basketball prowess and, because he’s Nick Searcy, professional wrestling. Oh, he fielded a question from first-time caller Tink in Cali, too.
Again, we thank you all!!!
Coach Joe – 17:00
Jack Marino – 35:30
Gary Werkheiser – 47:00
Nick Searcy – 1:54:40
CO-HOST’S UPDATE:
We’re ultimately not going live (whaddyagonnado?), but as mentioned yesterday, will be recording the podcast from 2-4 PM PST (Rich, if you may be able to call in, that’d be 4-6 PM Central — self-deprecating technology jabs and Rich’s trouble with time-zone differences, always reliable) — 831-531-7833.
If you’re shy about your voice potentially sounding like Jennifer Tilly’s, please share any questions or comments below and we’ll fit them into the show somehow.
After almost three years, and in the face of Neil Young’s advice by way of Def Leppard that it’s better to burn out, RF3D will fade away after tomorrow’s show. Despite a roster filled with phenomenal guests, plus this little thing called real life which occupies a decent portion of all involved’s time, the show unfortunately never grabbed enough attention to forge on any further. As an 80s soft-rock classic goes, that’s just the way it is, baby.
I want to thank Rufus, Floyd and Rich for inspiring this little project. While I never looked at RF3D as “mine,” instead enjoying the teamwork which went into every show, I’m honored they asked me to be the moderator when we kicked off the fun. Never imagined it would have gone the directions it did, and it’s been a helluva ride. I also want to thank each and every one of our listeners and the many guests who graced our virtual airwaves.
However – and screw the melancholy vibe I may have incited – as the above video implies, we’re rockin’ the final show with a return appearance from Justified’s Nick Searcy, and also might hear from some representatives from Penn State’s LA Alumni chapter to discuss the upcoming THON benefit for pediatric cancer research. I’m also seeing a screening of Runway Slave tonight, so look for that to be discussed as well. Who knows, maybe the sweet Chicago tones of one Rich Trzupek will be heard as well (hint-hint, Rich).
Still not confirmed if we’ll be running in a live capacity or just recording a podcast. Either way, Nick’s scheduled to join us around 3:15 PM PST and Coach Joe’s going to do his best to stop by for a few minutes. If you feel so inclined, please give us a call at 831-531-7833 any time between 2:15 and 4 PST.

Eric sorry to hear about the end of RFT.
Much appreciated, AP. Another factor in pulling the show’s plug stems from difficulty securing non-political guests. For better and worse, and despite proving time and again we could avoid political conversations with interviews of left-leaning to outright liberal guests, some prospective guests couldn’t get past the stigma. Que sera sera.
That doesn’t surprise me. I think leftists stay where they are comfortable by and large.
For anyone wondering about the call-in process in the event we’re not live, have the past three years not proven little else on how unpredictable, insane and randomly crapshoot RF3D can be? Have a question and/or comment in the times listed above, we’ll somehow make it work.
That’s too bad, it was a good show.
Sorry to hear that. It wasn’t on at a good time for me here on the east coast … I go to the ranch at that time to feed the horses, and then prepare dinner to feed myself. And if I haven’t thanked you before, thanks for having me as a co-host for the interview with Tom Dreesen. As much as I mucked it up with my phone being as loud as the Emergency Broadcast System, and being a greenhorn, it was beyond memorable and the most fun I’ve had in a long time. Thank you!
T’was our pleasure and glad you were able to bring your Blue Eyes love to the table, especially the clinking ice bit.
Re. the show not being on at a good time, I hope you were at least able to listen to the podcasts we always posted after the recordings. If not, always available in the archives and we thank you for your continued support, even with our endless sabbatical.
Eric, you are one of the best guys on internet radio and you need to find a way to get back on a show. We have discuss this in the past and going to a studio is the best thing for you and for me. However it cost money and the money is out there. You have a hell of a track record of all kinds of guest, your knowledge of rock and roll music then and now is astounding. You know all about sports and your show would be awesome dealing with Music, Sports, Movies, History and a touch of politics. You are a political animal and would have a hell of a show if you brought in politics once in a while to flavor up the stew. Your knowledge on history is incredible you have a code of honor I admire and you stick by your friends. YOU BELONG ON RADIO getting paid by sponsors. Time is on your side, it is your ally not your enemy. Take this time off to gather your thoughts, rebuild your determination and get out there and find the money. If the people you and I both know on the radio can do this, so can you. Think about this and talk to your partner from New York she has a lot of great ideas.
Good luck with the final podcast, I will listen after it is posted. And, as Jack wrote above, keep looking for an outlet. You have the knack.
You know, where I come from you usually have to pay extra to get your post double-bumped.
I pays, er, it’s nice to be a site moderator.
I think EP just wanted his “post next to the two vaginas”. rf3d will be sorely missed, it will live in podcast glory, until the time when it will rise again. Count on it.
I appreciate the kind words, folks, but with far too many shows criminally under-downloaded, I can’t help but think of some words from Mr. Vedder. With a boo-hoo and a wah-wah …
