While I find the original three movies entertaining enough, I’m by no means a Star Wars fan so I may not understand the mindset, but isn’t that pretty much what every fan yells about everything Lucas does?
I don’t know about Red Tails, his current ode to the Tuskegee Airmen, reviews are mixed and I haven’t seen it.
American Graffiti was good. Star Wars was good, if he just left it alone. He had a hand in Raiders of the Lost Ark…so he’s not all bad. Apparently during his press junket for Red Tails he was slamming the fan boys who ride his ass about the Star Wars thing…funny stuff.
I’ve been wondering about this Red Tails also, mostly because of a particular scene in the trailer. It’s very brief, but it’s where the Airmen stand, arm in arm, in a circle and chant, like a modern football team that’s about to take the field, in call & response form, “We fight! WE FIGHT! We Fight! WE FIGHT!” While I might grant that to some in today’s military, I just can’t see it in the early ’40s.
People I know who are really into WWII history say it’s not historically accurate at all…but some of the same people said they enjoyed it for the flying scenes and that the story meant well so it’s all good…I’m paraphrasing of course but that’s what they were getting at.
Oh mannnnn…I HAD that book! Haven’t thought about it in years and years…
That was pre-”Luke & Leia are related”, wasn’t it — there was some romance suggested, IIRC.
Wow. Buying it this week!
Staying out of the Star Wars battle since my light sabre is down for repairs…Here’s yur coffee! Here’s yur pigmeat! Here’s yur weekend! It’s only Thursday here in Vegas, the city that never sleeps! Enjoy…I shall return!
Electronic osmosis, my dear. There are many diseases that can be caught that way. I hope you get over yours soon. PITA to have one linger on for what seems like months.
At least it took you two weeks to get there, mine seems to have only taken 3 days. And it not happening to anyone else in this house – their colds went away after 2 days. Crap.
Gene Simmons supports Mitt Romney and makes a good argument for the Capital Gains tax being lower than the Income Tax -at Sundance http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKH2Fc-aanU
Does it matter what side of the road he’s on? Is anyone going to vote for someone because Gene Simmons said so? He said something interesting that made sense, a rarity for entertainers as a group…let’s leave it at that.
Romney: Will Obamacare be repealed within a year of you taking office? If so, why should it be repealed?
Santorum: Something about his earmarks and consistently voting for Bush’s big spending bills.
Ron Paul: His vote FOR the Authorization for the Use of Military Force in 2001.
Gingrich: In what way is your Moon Colony idea actually feasible?
Romney has already pledged to sign a full repeal on Day One in office. Over to you Boehner. Actually day one is impossible because the new GOP Senate won’t take over until that January.
TCM, this afternoon (mornin’ for all y’all on Left coast) is showing “2001: A Space Odyssey”. I’m re-confirmed in opinion that this is definitely in the top 5 of most over-hyped movies ever. Classic?!? Hogwash. It’s an over-long, boring, mishmash of pretty pictures and pretentious, pointless storytelling (if one can find anything approaching a story in the film). I have to think that Kubrick dropped acid when he filmed the closing scenes.
I’ll b honest: I find Newt’s responses to his rather lackluster debate performances the be well . . . whiny.
First it’s NBC not allowing the audience to cheer
Then it was that the audience was packed with Romney supporters
And now its that Romney was dishonest and you can’t debate with someone who is dishonest.
He’s going to have the same problems, especially the third, in the general election.
If he can’t debate in a format where the audience is not allowed to cheer, then how is he expected to perform well in the Presidential Debates come October?
If he can’t debate someone who is dishonest then how are conservatives supposed to believe he can go toe to toe with Obama?
I’m not a huge fan of either, they both have their drawbacks. I did see a Romney speech a week or two ago, after he won South Carolina I think, and thought he seemed more impressive and less wishy washy than I remembered. Since I can’t vote until almost the end of the primary season, I am just waiting to see how things are standing by then.
Back when I read that book I thought and hoped it would be the second Star Wars movie….DAMN YOU GEORGE LUCAS!
*”DAMN YOU GEORGE LUCAS!”*

American Graffiti was really good, probably my favorite movie of his. With all of the Stars Wars focus, that one tends to get lost in the shuffle.

The flying sequences in the trailer are pretty thrilling. And it is certainly a story that needs telling.
That makes two of us.

Coffee! Pigmeat!! And not a moment too soon! Tanks, Colonel!
Coffee and cough drops for me. Getting pretty tired of this cold, I’ll tell ya.
How you guys keep giving me these colds through the Internet, I’ll never know. Earlier in the year it was Lars and last week it was goozer.
Electronic osmosis, my dear. There are many diseases that can be caught that way.
I hope you get over yours soon. PITA to have one linger on for what seems like months.
…and now the cold that has lingered for two weeks seems to be developing into bronchitis.
I’m sure this weather that goes warm, cold, warm doesn’t help one bit.
At least it took you two weeks to get there, mine seems to have only taken 3 days. And it not happening to anyone else in this house – their colds went away after 2 days. Crap.
Sorry Tink—I didn’t mean for you to catch my cold!
Of course, if you would wear more than frosting, perhaps you’d be less vulnerable…
But I thought frosting was the answer for everything!
Only if the answer is “I can’t talk with my mouth full!”
Coffee!
Hey,its Sgt. Shultz’ birthday:

No cake needed! One birthday, per year, is plenty for me!

Didn’t Simmons also support Obama? Which side of the road is he on?
He lambasted Obama, big time, last year. Like many, clearing the dung from between their 2008 ears.
Does it matter what side of the road he’s on? Is anyone going to vote for someone because Gene Simmons said so? He said something interesting that made sense, a rarity for entertainers as a group…let’s leave it at that.
He had a moment of blinding clarity!
Apparently Simmons didn’t get Redford’s memo that Sundance Film Fest was for the “99-percenters”, not the millionaire and billionaire 1-percenters who actually go to that festival.
Gene Simmons also did a great concert for the miitary.

RIP Dick Tufeld … no more danger warnings for Will Robinson.
5 Questions I’d ask during the Debate
Romney: Will Obamacare be repealed within a year of you taking office? If so, why should it be repealed?
Santorum: Something about his earmarks and consistently voting for Bush’s big spending bills.
Ron Paul: His vote FOR the Authorization for the Use of Military Force in 2001.
Gingrich: In what way is your Moon Colony idea actually feasible?
I’d also like Newt to be asked why he called Paul Ryan’s plan “Right-wing social engineering”.
Romney has already pledged to sign a full repeal on Day One in office. Over to you Boehner. Actually day one is impossible because the new GOP Senate won’t take over until that January.

Gotta agree. It’s on my list of “Famous Movies That Are ‘Meh!’”
I liked 2010 a lot better. At least it had a semblance of a storyline to it.
Philistines.
Gaza Stripper!
I agree on the film and I also agree with -fritz- on “2010.” I never saw that film, but the novel is pretty decent.
I smell an upcoming Weekend 5!

Jeez, Kit, don’t go being all logical and everything. The important point is that it is NOT FAIR and Newt DOESN’T LIKE IT.
You not a Newt fan, Tink?
I’m not a huge fan of either, they both have their drawbacks. I did see a Romney speech a week or two ago, after he won South Carolina I think, and thought he seemed more impressive and less wishy washy than I remembered. Since I can’t vote until almost the end of the primary season, I am just waiting to see how things are standing by then.
Same here, my state’s primary is a week after Super Tuesday, so there is a chance this might be settled unless it goes the Hillary-Obama route.
Also, I’m getting rather tired of anyone who supports Mitt being tagged with the lable of RINO*.
Who would’ve thought we’d see the day when Anne Coulter would be called “an establishment RINO”?
*A term that has become WAY overused.
Same with Jonah Goldberg, who once wrote a book called “Liberal Fascism”.
