Dammit — sometimes I wish Newt was electable… in any case… he schools David Gregory on Rush Limbaugh “slutgate” on this morning’s Meet the Press.

You really can hear Ackroyd’s voice at the start of that answer.
I like the several second pause after the stupid question, too. Usually it’s annoying when a politician ignores the question to go off onto a canned answer, but this time, canned or not, was a time to definitely ignore the question. Time to stop accepting the premises on which the questions like these are based.
But will the Democrat-Media Industrial Complex be able over the next 8 months to keep dishing out these side-shows and distractions? I doubt it, but welcome their efforts. Because it only makes the DMIC complacent, and October is no time to suddenly have to start defending their economic and domestic and foreign records. (I don’t think even an actual October Surprise War would help The Community-Organizer-in-Chief this time.)
So well put it’s unbelievable! It is the truth, however so the left will not believe it!
You know this and the fact we lost Beitbart has put me into the mood of ok assholes I don’t care now which of these tools the GOP has foisted upon us gets the nomination…Fu and and your bigoted, bias bullshit. How come Ed Schultz can call Laura Ingraham a slut and get away with it and Rush gets hit with the lefts version of the Nazi Billy club? Oh…I forgot I know why. Fu you assholes.
Welcome back to reality (whoops, there’s the gravity) on voting for the GOP nominee, Steph. Figured you’d be back on the team eventually.
My wife got me Brietbart’s book for Christmas; I read it this weekend in tribute to the man. One thing seemed clear to me – Andrew despised the media enablers of the liberal establishment at least as much – and probably more – than the democrat pukes who are destroying the country.
Which takes me to “sometimes I wish that Newt was electable”. I think any of the current three is electable, but which is the most electable depends so much on the economic (and perhaps foreign policy) dynamic come late summer and fall. The media end of the “Complex” (as Brietbart calls the Democrat/media alliance) will do everything it can to cover for Obama (“oh, you know, there’s really nothing he can do about gas prices”, etc.), and that’s one place where some of the distinctions between the three GOP frontrunners come to play.
The media can intimidate Romney – if he has any core beliefs, he’s done a great job hiding them, so expect him to say what the media force him into saying, so as not to alienate them. The media probably won’t be able to intimidate Santorum – he knows what he believes in – but on occasion they’ll outsmart him by playing to his sincerity to get him to latch onto tar-babies. But the media can neither intimidate nor outsmart Newt.
If Newt’s the nominee, one of two things will happen: either reality (economic and/or geopolitical) will beat Obama, or character weaknesses will lead Newt to beat himself. I wouldn’t be surprised to see both tendencies in play, with a race to the bottom to see who’s falling apart fastest. But if Newt could just develop some self-discipline, and if an insane energy policy accelerates an unraveling economy, President Newt might well not be the fantasy (or nightmare) most people imagine.
I agree, Stosh. It’s simply too early to call. We are all like bookies trying to call the World Series in April. To continue the metaphor, we don’t have a clue what injuries will plague which team, which pitchers and hitters will get on a streak, which teams will get lucky…
Four years ago Senator Obama could run on promises, but now he has a record and a lot of that record is a mess. There is some good; killing Bin Laden, getting most of our troops home, hosting some killer parties at the White House… But there is more than enough fodder for an able candidate to use in an election campaign.
As you aptly write, we won’t know who the best candidate is until we get to October. Four years ago a strong military and foreign policy seemed important, but by the time summer rolled around the world had quieted down and the Republicans found themselves with a military hero with almost no knowledge of business and the private sector economy heading up their ticket.
I know Newt’s not going to get the nomination, but if Santorum, Romney etc. wins in November, I hope he chooses Newt as his Press Secretary. I’d love to see him taking on the media in press conferences every day.
I wish all the Republicans had agreed to treat the subject this way. Just ignore it, focus on real issues and call out the left for acting like the little spoiled children they really are.
Not just ignore it, but point out how irrelevant it is. That the only reason the Dems are pushing this stuff is because they desperately need distractions from their abysmal record.
For example, we’ve already seen that they plan on running against a “do nothing” congress. Well, it needs to be repeatedly pointed out that they are absolutely correct, because it’s the Dem controlled Senate that has been blocking everything put out by both the House and The Community-Organizer-in-Chief. That we’ve no budget passed since Bush is being done deliberately by the Dems as they rack up trillions in debts as a result.
Will the Stupid Party and its candidate point this out? I’m not betting on it…
(As for Newt… how about VP? He’d make a great President of the Senate as the fights over the filibuster gets intense, too. But can he stay on message as #2? )
Add up all the variables and Jindal’s likely to get a look as a VP choice.
And unlike Palin, it would set him up to be “next-in-line” in 4 years, or 8.
The most unforgivable thing that McDole did last time was to elevate Palin too soon. If he hadn’t, odds are she would have won reelection, and like Jindal, be in a much better position to resist the attacks from the Democrat-Media Complex. (And that’s the reason all the talk about Rubio shows that far too many in the Stupid Party just do not ever learn.)
Well, to be fair, it’s the base that’s doing most of the chattering.
I think I’d be extremely happy if Newt got the VP nod. He’d be in a perfect position to piss off all the right people.
This is why Newt needs to stay in this contest. Electable or not, he’s the only one inflicting this kind of damage on the president and his shielding media. If Romney, or Santorum, or , hell, even Paul would swing for the fence like Newt does, it would be easier to feel more comfortable with our field of candidates.
In battle, it’s important to avoid damage. But it seems lost on some, that to inflict significant damage on the enemy, it will require exposure to potential returned fire damage. Like Bill Clinton in the Balkans, one can safely bomb from 30,000 feet with little to show for it. Or one can send them in at tree top level with devastaing effect and accept the casualties of the more dangerous assault. The bold tactic is to try to win. The timid tactic is to try to not lose. McCain tried to not lose and all can see what that got us.
Once again Gregory had his brain out on his desk, playing with it.
When someone pranks with a dog and he is bitten he learns to leave the dog alone.
Gregory is just not smart enough to leave the former speaker alone.
Gregory needs to MC a kiddee show where he can intimidate a 10 year old who is on the same intellecual level.
His name is David Gregory and he is NOT smarter than a 5th grader eh Paul?
