Friday night there are going to be ten of thousands of people here in Memphis who call Indiana home!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZ8A7Q-SVHI
All of whom are talking about how they “warsh” their clothes once a week.
That’s a shi*ty thing to say,Doc…I know you’re kidding,but you’re pushing it.
Don’t get your knickers in a bunch on my account. My mom and her whole family are from the Bedford and the Vincennes, Indiana areas. My mom went to school at Indiana University. In fact I have a great grandfather who was a chief engineer on the George Rogers Clark memorial construction. We spent many a happy summer in Brown County enjoying the park and as a kid, I loved the children’s museum in Indianapolis.
All that to say, every single one of my Indiana relatives say “warsh” instead of “wash” and isn’t it normal to run a load of laundry about once a week? I know I don’t generally need to wash clothes more than once a week.
So, what exactly did I say wrong?
They say the same thing, here, Doc. I know what you mean.
My kids are always getting on me for inserting the “R” also. I was born in Nebraska and grew up in Colorado. I’ve even been to Warshington, DC.
You say, “vorshing,” rather than, “vahshing,” Herr Colonel? What kind of Kraut are you?
Vas? BTW, you just wrecked my chance for a noon hour 10 peat…otherwise known in Threedonia as a “nooner!”
Congratulations, Herr Colonel! I am PROUD to be part of this effort. Please let me know if I can assist you in any way. I will be standing-by!
And if you are a Manning in Mississippi or Tennessee, knock on any door and you’ll be home!

Hope this is the nail in the coffin for Sarcozy..
http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/03/22/mohamed-merah-dies-in-french-standoff-s-gory-end.html
Um, why are you hoping that?
After him its either a socialist or an anti-NATO Gaullist.
Sarkozy is the best of the three.
Again, why do you want Sarkozy to go down?
Coffee, krullers and commentary! I’ll be back!

Always enjoyed that song, featuring the later-to-be-legendary James Burton at the Fender Jazzmaster!
Just got through (most) of the The Hunger Games trilogy. The first two books are good, while the third becomes a depressingly self-indulgent anti-war sermon, with things like characterization and internal logic thrown out the window. Then you realize that the titular Hunger Games are ultimately a metaphor for war and it’s even more obnoxious.
Shocker!
Well, with the first two books, you could mistake it as a metaphor for a celebrity-obsessed cultural decadence, reality TV, and the culture of death. But the authoress then draws a line between that and the typical claptrap about the “cycle of violence,” which is tiresome, but then we get a nice helping of moral equivalency, with a healthy portion of emotional appeal. It reads like Orwell going full retard.
Still going to see it, David.
Like I said, first two books are good. And I hear the movie might be better than the the book.
Ok.
Shoulda put a
after my comment!
But will it be better than Battle Royale?
Goozer…did you ever get back to your website to check my comment on your little irony remark?
I have a website?
Oh, you meant my Flickr page…got it!
So, you are, how do the English put it…taking the piss?
Not so Buckwheat! Bloody good show though Guvnah !:-)
I said that mainly to tick off Barry O. I apparently offended him a couple weeks back. No racist overtones intended in either case!
Happy birthday to the lovely Michelle Monaghan and to the great Akira Kurosawa.
Pat’s off his meds again.

If you’re traveling at 80mph, how long will it take you to travel 80 miles?
This is not a trick question: http://z6.co.uk/blonde
A fortnight? That would only apply if one were departing from a one horse dorp, However!
Did you mean, “Dorf?”
Nope…Dorp…small village or town, otherwise known as a “one horse town.” Not to be confused with Dorf on Golf!
I’ve never seen that word used. Is it English? “Dorf” is German for village, or, as Frau Blucher says (queue horses), “willage.”
Dorp is at least used by the Brits. I think it may actually have a Scandinavian origin.
I picked it up from the title of a Masterpiece Theater show I watched years ago. It was about a British detective solving a crime in a “One Horse Dorp.”
I’ll bet it comes from the German. The Brits also borrow the German, “-burg” as in site of a castle or fortification for a lot of their place names, which got further anglicized to “burrow” as in Queens and Yonkers and/or “burrough.”
Most likely you are correct. If I remembered as much Latin as I once did, I’d almost wager that there is a root in Latin for all the related variations and languages where the word is similar and with the same meaning.
I’m not very well studied in the history of languages (although I’ve had a lot of Latin and German, and some Spanish and Italian), but I think the accepted wisdom is Latin and German came from two independent sources. Obviously the conquering Romans had an influence on a lot of Europe, but the initial origins were independent and different.
I get the feeling that every question is a trick question with that woman.
Hey, teacher! Leave those kids alone! http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2012/03/22/reports-new-jersey-middle-school-bans-hugging/
I assume they are afraid a group hug will break out.
Wasn’t it liberals who pushed all this touchy-feely, hugging stuff on us in the first place?
Yessir, t’was.
Guess we need a new Leo Buscaglia?
Leo Buscaglia? Blast from the past!
Of course you knew Obama was going to weigh in on the Trayvon Martin situation in Florida. Money quote, “If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon.” I like this one also: “all of us have to do some soul searching to figure out how does something like this happen.” I am called to mind several other recent incidents where innocent people (assuming the facts are as the press is stating them – big assumption – I am reserving judgement in that regard) were killed and the President said nothing. Of course they were adults, and/or former military, so I guess they don’t count.

Hey, Beansy, the Narcissist in Chief’s singing your song …
Tink,
I heard that also, and was so disappointed. I mean this in all sincerity, I don’t think we have ever had a more egotistical man in the White House than we do right now (and that’s saying something!).
“If I had a son?!” Well, you don’t, but this family in Florida did and he’s dead. Maybe you can truly feel sorry for them instead of projecting their tragedy onto you and trying to use it to make a political point; a point that turns attention to you.
“How does this happen?” I don’t know the facts but I am confident our legal system will sort this out. As head of the Executive Branch one would think he would be stressing the same.
I guess he’s trying to make this into an issue about race. How sad. What about the murders in Chicago last weekend? 10 dead (including a gorgeous little 6 year old girl), but I guess the President doesn’t like the racial make-up of those deaths, so crickets.
I guess there may be a silver lining. Our President has so let the color of his father’s skin taint his outlook that many are learning the danger of prejudice and what a man becomes when he views everything through a racial lens.
I agree, Rufus, it is so disheartening. And apparently the genius who is Obama refuses to learn anything from his past mistakes. Unless he is planning on having us all to the White House for a beer to apologize.
He needs to remember that he’s as white as he is black. He’s the number one race-baiter in America! Let’s see if he says something about this one!!!

President Obama does seem to have a lot of prejudice.
Ace of Spades has a great analysis of the whole situation (including the “white hispanic” thing that has been driving me nuts). http://minx.cc/?post=327770
I see Ace of Spades also mentions the story from the link I just posted above.
Some (potential) good news from Dick Morris: http://rightwingnews.com/column-2/senate-democrats-in-mortal-danger/
I also read the other day that there are some Dems jumping off the Obama Love Wagon and going with more conservative ways, which, of course, may be a temporary ruse till the smoke settles in November after they find out if they got reelected.
You might want to swallow a good dose of Syrup of Ipecac after you hear this:http://z6.co.uk/idiot
Happy Birthday, Obamacare! It guarantees Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. At least, that’s what poison-tongued Pelosi said.

A FB friend posted a poster I cannot link to, but here’s the jist of it:
“If currency were bullsh*t, Obama could payoff the national debt himself!”
Some of you might remember a while back I posted that I was looking for a job here in Taiwan because the position I have now is being fazed out at the end of June. I got a message today from a school where I had applied saying they were offering me a one-year elementary teaching position. I’m pretty happy about this, it’s a good school with a good staff and I think it’ll be a very good position. Also, having a job lined up makes getting married a lot easier.
Congratulations! That is great news!!
