So, I’ve been developing the plot for the alternate history story I talked about and now I’ve decided to move it to a parallel steampunk universe. What I found is that, in reviewing what I wanted to say in the story, using a strict alternate history setting would make things too obvious and bring up some people’s defenses. Plus, I can also fudge things a little more with the timeline and setting.
The downside with this approach is that elements don’t necessarily have the same resonance as names, events, places, and symbols from our world (such as seeing the stars and stripes in a battle scene), so the new challenge to is to instill a sense of familiarity and attachment with a world that isn’t our own, so that fictional parallels can have a similar power.
That’s why you’re the writer, and I’m not!
Coffee and krullers today. A bit of bacon and eggs fixed how you like them.

Thanks, Colonel! I need the feed this morning for sure — softball season opener last night and an epic project here at work make for a hungry Animal!
What position do you play, or do you watch or coach, or couch?
I mainly run the outfield from Left Center, and am the leadoff hitter. I am also the Co-Manager of the team.
Co-manager? I thought you lived in Texas not some hippie commune.
That just means that when the guy who started the team 20 years ago takes an occasional leave of absence, I take over, which has happened from time to time. Plus, I front the money to register, so there!

Thanks Fritzie!
My pleasure!
I shall hold down the fort, with a cup of coffee in one hand and a kruller in the other, until you return!
I’m back!

Another reason to like Texas:

“If you come to Texas and kill someone, we will kill you back.” -Ron White
The world’s well shed of that piece of shit.
Oh, yeah. So many great Phineas and Ferb musical moments, from the Perry the Platypus “dooby-dooby-doo” theme to pick any and every other tune. Great choice (and choices), Floyd!
On a different animation note, from a show which has also brought several brilliant songs, last night’s South Park episode, though beginning with a pretty funny slam on Faith Hill, ended up being the worst I’ve ever seen. Hope I don’t have to be thinking this about Matt, Trey and Co. next week.
By the way, “A Perfect World,” with kevin costner and CLINT EASTWOOD, just came in. This better be good . . .
I’ve pretty much given up on South Park at this point. Loved the show for years, but over time all the gross-out humor lost its shock value and just became boring. And as much as I appreciate its unabashedly libertarian bent, the preachy satire is about a subtle as a sledgehammer to the temple.
The only thing Southpark ever did for me was to help me to “Blame Canada!”
Eric, I better not ever catch you Taylor Swift-ing.
Born on this day in 1906,E.Power Biggs(his real name, you couldn’t make that up!).When Biggs meets Bach,it’s quite wonderful:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FpZfvlWJbjg
Biggs was wonderful. I first heard of him back in 1970, when I was a mus. ed. major. Awesome, indeed.
I heard him for the first time about then as well. Quite good!
And happy birthday to Elle Macpherson…48!

If liberals really want to know what it’s like to be the victim of a “war on women,” they should ask Michelle Malkin: http://rightwingnews.com/10-random-140-character-thoughts/the-lefts-war-on-women-a-day-in-the-life-of-michelle-malkin-on-twitter-explicit-language/
But its the Conservatives who are the REAL mysogynists.

I think that this writer is being sarcastic:
http://pjmedia.com/tatler/2012/03/29/britain-waits-for-obama-to-comment-movingly-and-eloquently-on-gun-murders-of-white-tourists-by-black-youth/
Gee, ya think?? The events are tragic, for sure; but, let’s give the Knucklehead-In-Chief time to respond.
That this article was found on PJ Media was not coincidental.
Quick poll: Should I post my latest creation on my Facebook page?
The words “hell” and “yes” could not be better used, at least not in answer to your query. Kudos, sir!
You might catch some grief for posting it, but that, sir, is a thing of beauty.
Well, so far one of brothers (who is also conservative) has called me a racist… :-/
The ones who accuse, as in the free slinging of the term “racist”, are usually the ones guilty of it themselves. Queens of denial, as it were.
(Authors note: the word “my” was dropped from in front of “brothers”.)
He’s not a racist himself, but he’s certainly reacting viscerally to the image while missing the underlying context which was the point of my picture.
I wasn’t trying to convict your brother. Just meant the statement to fit the liberal bunch as a whole, in the USA.
Oh, no worries — I understood what you meant!
What I really find surprising is the fact that Jon Stewart agrees with my charachterization!
Well now the youngest one has weighed in…and I’ve gone from racist to rapist. Because according to him, my analogy means that since I called my X2 a bitch in the heat of the divorce, I’m a rapist. (insert eye roll here.)
Thanks, guys! Feel free to ‘borrow’ it, if you are so inclined!
Done and thankee kindly.
Best opening credits ever!

Well, maybe best movie opening credits.
Best TV:

Scott, Scott, Scott. That’s my fave TV theme music, sure, but still doesn’t top Drebin’s show.

You had to know this was coming!
Pardon me. My bad. I didn’t go back far enough: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lih-z4G4jY&feature=related
This is IT!
Goozer, why did they mess with something that kicked ass in the first place…idiots.
Well…I suppose because they though it would be great to mash-up the two most iconic cop shows of their respective eras. Or they were bored.
Turnabout is fair play, but it doesn’t work as well…
OH, YEAH!
There’s this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvWfbIe4X_4
That scene always makes me laugh my tail off. Also the scene when Drebin (Nielson) knocks out the umpire and steals his uniform in the restroom is a real laugher as well. Can’t find a video for that one though.
Kit here (trouble w/ leaving a reply on this computer)
What about this:

Sorry, I’m a nerd.
Comment test.
Okay, that one with the purple/pinkish avatar is me, I put my email under website.
I’m gonna go with this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrK0rZj6pes
I’d go with this, if it HAD been the theme song. But, alas, it was simply an ad.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZfHcuj0kiow
Billy Squier rocks, but no.
Cool, but not an opening sequence that actually aired…never mind Kit said it was an advert not an opening, jeeze.
Like Outlaw said.
I just said “if it HAD been”. Then it would’ve been awesome.
Actually, I’d still go with FIREFLY and DOCTOR WHO.
I’m just that big of a nerd.
What about the Prisoner?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14eUKogPF7s
Be seeing you.
The Prisoner was awesome! Also liked these opens, as long as we’re in retro mode:

You know Kit, just because you enjoy a particular show doesn’t mean it has a great opening.
These are great openings…sometimes better than the show itself.
The Six Million Dollar Man: http://youtu.be/HofoK_QQxGc
Las Vegas:
and CSI:
“Hawaii Five-O” had an opening better than the show. The “Baretta” opening was all kinds of awesome, but so was the show.
Bite your tongue, Rufus.
Can’t, there’s a pill on it.
In an odd irony, about 20 years later I had car trouble in Spandau, Germany and had to spend a day there waiting for repairs. I had no idea there was a Spandau, Germany until I asked a local where I was while on the phone with the rental car company. While there I did not attend the ballet.
Not a big fan of history? It is where the prison that held all the Nazi war criminals was.
Funny you should mention that! I just learned that two days ago reading about Albert Speer. But I do know who Audie Murphy was!
CSI openings are awesome.
Never cared for the show.
“For Your Eyes Only” was good, too, heard here in a “demo version” that never made it to the screen:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FSxTStAfpBY&feature=related
. . .and, the original open:

While I was at YouTube, I found this, for any Toto/Rosanna fans.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6apwAZHzkw&feature=relmfu
Who woulda thought, “Birdland” tucked inside of “Rosanna?” Awesome. Just flat-out awesome!
Can someone explain the point of this article?
http://dailycaller.com/2012/03/28/marcos-mistake/
Also, the comments are funny. Amazing how quickly one can go from being “Golden Boy of the Tea Party” to “Puppet of the Establishment”.
I think the point of that article is that some people wake up in the morning and immediately start looking for things to bitch about.
You’re probably right.

My favorite beer ad of all time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGJiTpBBD18
Very good! And big!
Here’s a beer ad for ya…
Guess Gatorade was a little late to the party, yes?
Love Phineas & Ferb. We watch it on netflix streaming with our rugrat (along with Spongebob and Fairly Oddparents).
How is your rugrat,Jimmy?May grow up to be a Threedonian…(shudder).
We’re Phinneas and Ferb fans also. Dufenshmertz translates roughly to, “Stupid pain.”
The Love Handle reunion episode is great! This and Spongebob are also big in Germany, “Spongebob Schwammkopf.”. Spongebob Spongehead.
I thought you were a Peaches and Herb fan…

I thought American leaders weren’t supposed to impose their values on other countries. http://cnsnews.com/news/article/obama-requests-770-million-fight-global-warming-overseas
Wubya spent about that much in aid to Africa to combat tropical disease…saved millions of lives.Bono said that he did more for Africa than every President before him put together.
Yeah, and other than Bono and Bob Geldof, he got zero credit from the Left for his efforts. But at least he was combating a problem that was scientifically proven to exist.
I thought the left hated vigilantiism. Especially considering what they say about movies such as DEATH WISH, DIRTY HARRY, and HARRY BROWN.

Govindini Murty connects the dots for idiots…

Here’s the deal the with the Hunger Game Books:they are an absolute triumph,an affirmation of republican virtue and a savage attack on tyranny and the culture of narcissism.I’m very happy that I started reading them.
With the third book, you’ll wish you hadn’t.
We shall see,Davidicus
May the odds be…you know.
It’ll be interesting to compare notes.

And why did the parent think trying to bring the police into this was a good idea?
Sheesh. Out of all the stuff that’s going on in schools, THIS is what parents are complaining about? Learn to pick your battles, people.
An appeal to the Campaigner-In-Chief: http://z6.co.uk/21r

So, the Obama admin leaked a story about a possible secret Israeli aircraft-staging area? According to former ambassador John Bolton, “Yes!”

In the overall scheme of things, I would have never guessed the opposite to this:
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/upshot/chelsea-clinton-sandra-fluke-203906419.html
Could there have ever been any doubt?
The instance sighted in the article regarding Chelsea was ignorant on Limbaugh’s part.
True. Very cruel, actually.
Now if he’d shown a picture of Hillary, that would’ve been different.

Steph will probably like this. I had no idea miniatures were used as blind assist animals. We used to have a couple on our farm when I was a kid, and it makes sense. They’re smart.

Civil of him to do so; but, still, he did it to head off a lawsuit.
