Dec. 28, 1975…. Roger Staubach to Drew Pearson — THE Haily Mary (Staubach coined the term). Not being around for my grandparents’ marriage, his liberation from POW camp in WW2, the births of my aunt and Mom — this was the happiest I ever saw my Papaw in the 16 years I was blessed to know him — and that means something to a 7 year old boy. Plus it was friggin’ awesome.
Don’t worry — they’re not all Texas sports moments.
That he made the catch against Swilladelphia makes it that much sweeter,Floyd(I’m a Cowboy fan who hates the Eagles more than the Foreskins..oops,the Redskins!)
Against the Vikings, but who’s really counting your number of drinks this morning?
You aren’t much of a Cowboys fan if you didn’t know the Hail Mary pass was against the Vikings.
Guess the photo didn’t give it away…?
Fidel mocks Barfy…I agree!

That said, they ARE nice shirts. I wouldn’t mind having a linen version, or two.
Happy 83rd to Max von Sydow…”Pathetic Earthlings, who can save you now?”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-0sXXNrx-4
It always cracks me up when some snot-nosed 20-something actor complains about how hard making movies is. If it’s so tough, then how can guys like Max Von Sydow keep going strong well into their 80s?
Also happy 24th birthday to Haley Joel Osment. His career hit the skids pretty quick after The Sixth Sense, but whoo boy did he hit that one out of the park. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qqVQcZxpqA
Von Sydow was robbed for Extremely Loud … . Osment was for Sixth Sense, too. Also dug him in Secondhand Lions, where held his own with Caine and Duvall.
Max von Sydow is a magnificently good actor. Never a bad performance and always stands out head and shoulders above all!
Random thoughts..the 40th Chapter of Isaiah is one of the most sublime pieces of literature in human history:”Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and cry to her that her warfare has ended
I hear that. Drives me crazy that kids aren’t required to study the Bible in literature class anymore.
Well,Doc,it’s hard to tweet Isaiah!
Scott, have you read Isaiah Chapter 53?
Interesting assertion. Thoughts?
I haven’t had a thought in years, David.
Interesting to call it “Post-Secularism,” isn’t it? Is it an “either/or” subject? That is, could it be that religious apologists have been speaking up and upon this subject for many years, and are finally beginning to influence academia; or, is the academic pendulum beginning to swing back towards a belief in a supreme being?
My thoughts exactly Herr Sgt. Major. You are back on the possible promotion cycle!
Would this be a promotion to “civilian?”
Only if you go to the cooler first!
Been years since I had a thought…suits me.

A Modest Proposal from Christian Toto: http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Hollywood/2012/04/09/celebs-call-civil-disobedience
Sure, Hollywood celebs are hypocrites; but, at least they’re consistent. That makes it OK, right?
Got something related in mind, but we’ll see how far the production makes it. Is it July 14th yet?
Oh please. So we are to believe they are not part of the 1% just because they say so? that is completely ridiculous on its face. And as Mr. Toto says, why aren’t they putting their money where their mouth is?
These people saying they are not part of the 1% is like The Krupp Family saying they didn’t make a deal with Hitler.
Or Soros saying he is Orthodox Jew!

Do they really think they need ads to encourage dirty old men to touch themselves? What’s that line about each man having his own personal worry stone?
“Worry stone” or “Kidney stone?”
Why?
What??? Are you turning into Marcoe?
I meant Rufus,not Flovd…heh!
Coffee, krullers, bacon and eggs, and OJ(not Simpson)!
Sorry I’m late again, and that Magnus or INFJ didn’t take up the slack. Hey, I can’t be everywhere at once! My supercape has a hole in it!
Sure . . .blame the little people.
Little??
Be kind…he’s watching his waistline………………grow!
It does that over the winter. I just buy bigger belts, and it makes me look as if I’m losing weight.
And big, floppy clown shoes so you can see your toes?
Even with clown shoes, I still can’t see my feet.
Whoa! You need to go visit the “recreation room in Colditz!” (See my Monday Open Thread reply to your comment for info).
Perhaps you could give me a push and roll me in that direction?
I wonder if any of the Democrats who are calling for Scott Walker’s recall have actually bothered to stop and think about what he’s accomplished. “Who cares that he’s balanced the budget, cut taxes and lowered unemployment! His solutions make me uncomfortable, therefore he must be fired!”

I cannot believe this awe-inspiring occurrence was not already posted here. It’s the Cleavage Hall of Fame, people!
Guess that digital-reduction bumped Jennifer’s Lovely Hewitts to make room for Rihanna (????).
Christina Hendricks, Monica Belucci and Salma Hayek don’t make it onto that list, but Rihanna does?! I demand a recount!
Yes, I figured you guys might have some corrections to offer. I have not once heard anyone utter a word of praise about Rihanna’s chest, I don’t know too many who enjoy her music either.
The Wonderbra people are lame, and that list is lamer.
This contest was held in the U. K. When it comes to these shores (which, I hope, will be tomorrow), allow me to be the first to volunteer my talents as judge!
Scarlett Johansson
Remembering yesterday’s Open Thread and the visit to the “keep’s” torture room, there’s a rack I could be tortured upon!
I may just use that line in the presence of the housefrau!
So, Game of Thrones season 2 started in April, and I’m really bored here in Taiwan because there’s nothing to watch on TV and it’s been raining a lot so I downloaded and watched the first 2 episodes (I did finish season 1). After finishing the two, and realizing in an hour and half absolutely nothing happened and that I was falling asleep, I decided to jump on over to Wikipedia and just read the story synopsis of the books to find out if it’s something I want to finish or not.
Has anyone read all of the books? Because the synopsis is the most confusing, convoluted and really boring sounding mishmash of crap I’ve read in a long time. Some book critic compared the author to Tolkien and based on what I read in the first book, I think not. Not even close.
I just got them on eloan from my library for my kindle. Not sure I’ll get around to reading them soonish, but I’m hopeful so I’ll let you know… I’ve never seen the show.
The Sunne in Splendour is also on my to-read list. I think it will be better than GoT.
“Game of Thrones”…that’s when you play musical chairs with toilet seats, right?
Just keep a firm grip on the orb and sceptor!
Was there ever any doubt that this would be the outcome?
http://news.yahoo.com/hybrid-car-owners-not-buying-again-172223253–abc-news-savings-and-investment.html
Not by anyone with a brain.
Exactly.
I got to ride in a Prius, last year. I was pleasantly surprised that there was ample room for an ample fellow like myself. I enjoyed the headroom and the quietness, and it seemed to do well in town. The owner came from about 25 miles away, and drove it on the interstate. He said it does well in town and on the highway.
Doesn’t mean I’m going to buy one; but, if I had the money, and was looking for a sedan/coupe, and the government wasn’t in on it, I think I’d get one, just to enjoy the technology and the items I listed, above. Ditto if I were looking for a gyrocopter/auto.
But how would you get used to the “ugly” of the things?
Most vehicles are already ugly. I’d be on the inside, when driving, and not outside where I could view the thing.
But, but, but…..
