Tennis used to be a great sport to watch on TV before it became a series of 140 mph blasts with 3 shot rallies. No one did it better than NBC sports with Dick Enberg and Bud Collins calling Wimbledon and it rarely got better than the 1980 Wimbledon Mens Finals between Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe and the great marathon tie breaker in the 4th Set. McEnroe won that battle but Borg won the cup.
An interesting article with a self-explanatory title, Gen-next of immigrants in US return home; India, China to gain from reverse brain drain. Any opinions on this?
So in India are the 7-11s run by a white guy from New Jersey?
+711
They’re run by Navajo
Apache jump on it!
Floyd, I think part of the lack of interest in tennis also stems from a lack of personalities. It was just interesting to watch back then, because of the people involved. Now, who are these people and why should I even care?
Andy Roddick’s the only one I know off the top of my head, and that’s mainly because of his smokin’ hot wife. Agassi the last great personality I can recall, but nothing beats the McEnroe/Borg or McEnroe/Connors matches. Bring back the wood rackets!!!

Agree with that Outlaw… McEnroe was a jerk, but his matches with Borg and Connors were great spectacle… and that was tennis!
The B in Apartment 23 is on tonight.
After Eric expressed one of his fellow travelers concerns with the “sucker punch” contained in an episode, I went back and watched the two episodes available on line (ABC.com, Hulu or I Tunes (ALL FREE!)) The offense took place during episode two during the opening sequence. The title character was attempting to set her new roommate up with a date. The new roommate being skeptical (having been taken by this women once already) doesn’t trust her. The pervert (literal) across the way says he was set up with his new girlfriend (a blow-up doll) by the title character and recommends it. He then tells us that the relationship is difficult because the doll is Republican and then scolds the doll for trying to interrupt the conversation. This is a long way to go to say that someone was offended because a pervert said he and his “new girlfriend” were having problems because “she” was a Republican. So we’re supposed to be offended because a pervert doesn’t like Republicans? That is an insult against Republicans? The offense was taken because the offended person allegedly thought the writers wanted to slam Republicans and this was their way of doing that…with a pervert being the spokesman for the side not liking Republicans…really.
I understand me writing this out isn’t going to make anyone want to see the show, and in fact may drive some not to watch it, but if you are so inclined it’s pretty funny, especially the parts with James Van Der Beek…Joe Bob says check it out.
DVR set since last week. I watch 30 Rock, so have become pretty impervious to GOP slams.
Joe Bob! Where you been keeping yourself?
I am actually looking forward to watching that show again tonight. Does anyone really listen to pervs and what they call their “companions” anyway?
Joe Bob Briggs got his start writing for the Dallas Herald (now out of business) back in the 80′s, his articles were always quite the hoot.
Yes, he was/is quite funny. I think I have a book of his drive-in movie reviews around here somewhere.
Morning, everyone! Coffee is ON: http://z6.co.uk/291 Try not to double-dip your kruller; we all gotta drink outa this thing.
Yes…and no washback by drinking from the pot!
I’ve got your bacon. Me and Arnie will be back! See ya!
Thanks for the coffee… More bs moving crap to do…..
Thank you Magnus! What large cups you have!

Do we really want to know how you came to possess that information, Fritzie?
Look at the pic he posted. That tells it all!
Joe Kennedy III (currently running for Democratic Rep.): Americans need to call for an end to “cheap oil.”
Yet Romney is the one who’s out of touch. Riiiight.
I wonder when the last time was that Joe had to make a decision as to whether to fill up the tank, or maybe put in two or three gallons, and put the rest towards the electric bill. Do you suppose he has to make decisions like that? He’s one of us, right?
Given that he’s been living quite comfortably off his grandfather’s bootlegging business his whole life, I can only conclude that Joe’s problem with Big Oil is that they make their millions legally.

Yeah…while it’s fun to watch tape measure home runs, I’d much rather watch a tight game with great pitching. Which fortunately is what the Rangers have been providing so far this season! GO RANGERS!
So you’re saying you’d rather watch National League baseball.
Eh, Nolan Ryan’s best years were in the AL and you know it.
(Prepping to dodge and duck from heavy flying objects)
NR was not the only pitcher in baseball and you know it.
Biggest mistake Houston ever made was not re-signing Ryan.
If you are honest you will admit that the NL style of baseball more closely resembles what Goozer describes.
Don’t let my AL team allegiances fool ya, I love and prefer the NL style of ball, always have. More strategy and “the games within the games” as my little league coach likes to say.
Biggest mistake the Angels ever made was not signing Ryan. ’82 and ’86 would likely have ended much differently.

(I was 14 at the time, and the memory of those images still has the power to chill). The author,David Clay Large,by the way,is a superb historian. His book “Where Ghost Walked”,about Munich and the birth of Nazism,is one of my favorites.
Happy 65th to James Woods! One of his best roles was the cop killer Greg Powell in “The Onion Field”:

One of my all-time favorite actors, and yeah, he was great in the Onion Field. He also played an awesome Rudy Giuliani.
I liked him in Salvador. Pretty gripping and a great performance. Plus I like him because he’s conservative.
Keeping in line with the “I Know That Voice,” even if it is a high-profile celeb taking work from the VO actors, loved his performance as Hades in Disney’s Hercules.
“Eh, guys. Olympus would be THAT way.”

Here’s what James Carville had to say about his party of choice. This quote is a few years old, but it still gets the point across quite well:
“The Democratic constituency is just like a herd of cows. All you have to do is lay out enough silage and they come running. That’s why I became an operative working with Democrats. With Democrats all you have to do is make a lot of noise, lay out the hay, and be ready to use the ole cattle prod in case a few want to bolt the herd. Eighty percent of the people who call themselves Democrats don’t have a clue as to political reality. What amazes me is that you could take a group of people who are hard workers and convince them that they should support social programs that were the exact opposite of their own personal convictions. Put a little fear here and there and you can get people to vote any way you want. The voter is basically dumb and lazy. The reason I became a Democratic operative instead of a Republican was because there were more Democrats that didn’t have a clue than there were Republicans. Truth is relative. Truth is what you can make the voter believe is the truth. If you’re smart enough, truth is what you make the voter think it is. That‘s why I’m a Democrat. I can make the Democratic voters think whatever I want them to.”~~James Carville

Yup, Hoss, you pretty much said it all. No wonder Frank the Tank handed you your ass in Old School.
