Normally I would never pick a Yankees moment, but only a heartless jerk couldn’t be impressed by Jim Abbott’s no-hitter in September 1993 against the (sorry E!) Indians. He had a solid career and fielded the position better than most. And if you’re unfamiliar with Jim Abbott… that right hand is missing — it’s not the photo.
Good morning!

That’s some good news for seniors, eh? For now, it will only affect the households of -fritz-, Tink, and me. If this survives the election, health care as we know it is done. Finished. Kaput.
Oh, I forgot to include Wanks in our miserable consort. Sorry for the omission.
That is all. Carry on, and have a great day!
Be careful, my friend, about including Tink in too many of our little reindeer games. Rumor has it that she’s very sensitive about her age to the point of doing drastic harm to your head if she gets miffed!
On the other point, it looks as if Obammy may have crapped in his saddle with the healthcare. I’m stll looking for the SCOTUS to turn the whole thing out on it’s ear for it’s total unconstitutionality!
I’m with you; but, don’t hold your breath. Regardless of their line of questioning, the four liberal justices will vote to trample our Constitution, and uphold Obamacare, out allegiance to their “Fuhrer.” Everybody was pointing to Kennedy, too, and how he seemed to really “come around.” Again, don’t hold your breath. It’s going to take more than the Supreme Court to overturn this thing. Obama and his ilk have already demonstrated that they’re more than willing to break the law, and the Congress has shown little appetite to call him to account for his actions.
Certainly a nice thought: http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/times-obama-bias-romney/2012/04/23/id/436694
Too bad the NYT is five years too late. If ever there was a case of closing the barn door after the horse ran away, it’s this. Nice try, though. Still, they wanted to own him then, they can take ownership of him now, too.
Anyone see the Veep last night.
Pretty good. Saw it last night and liked what I saw.
Here is Toto’s review.

——————–
Let’s get the obvious question out of the way – is the main character in HBO’s new political comedy “Veep” based on Sarah Palin?
The answer is a quick and firm, “no.”
———————–
The first few “Veep” episodes don’t indicate Selina’s political party, although the talk of clean energy and other pet causes clearly make it a Democratic administration. Still, it’s as oddly apolitical so far as an HBO program can be.
————————–
Here is NRO’s Jim Geraghty’s review.
http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/296607/finally-veep-who-deliberately-makes-us-laugh-jim-geraghty
This is the line that made me watch it last night:
——————————————
Some reviewers are calling Veep a comedic West Wing, but a much more accurate comparison is the classic BBC series Yes Minister (later rechristened Yes, Prime Minister), a comedic hit in Britain during the Thatcher years. Some argued that the series provided a subtly conservative message, by suggesting that there are no noble civil servants or politicians thinking of the public’s best interest. Everyone operates with a healthy dollop of self-interest, whether they crave public approval, promotions, budgetary authority, freedom from oversight, or more power. It is a cynical view, but four years after a president was elected on explicitly messianic themes, perhaps it’s healthy for the viewing public to consider a more skeptical view of the self-professed altruism of those attracted to political power.
——————————————–
Yes, Minister was a great show. Yes, Prime Minister was not quite as good but good.
Another great part of Geraghty’s review:
“Some reviewers have argued that Dreyfus makes an unconvincing political leader; many viewers will still see Elaine from Seinfeld. Some viewers will declare that her character is too gaffe-prone, awkward, hapless, and unsettling to represent an American leader who is merely a heartbeat away from the presidency.
Then again, our current vice president is Joe Biden.”
Some days, I wish I had HBO. As long as the writers lampoon everyone equally, “Veep” might be a good show to watch.
HBO leans to the left but when they do good they do great (John Adams, Band of Brothers, etc.)
I guess even the looney liberals can’t get along!

Well, Heidi Harris, of Las Vegas conservative talk radio fame has a new gig…in LA on 870 AM radio at 6-9 a.m. PDT starting today. Give her a listen…you’ll like it. She’s not afraid to “name names!” Vegas loss is your gain! She’s replacing Glenn Beck!
Here is a quote from Wikipedia’s latest update on her:
“The Heidi Harris Show is scheduled to air weekday mornings on KRLA (Los Angeles) and KTIE (San Bernardino) beginning April 23, 2012 as a replacement for Glenn Beck.”
Listening to her, now. Thanks!
A replacement for Glenn Beck? Can anyone (for better or worse) replace Glenn Beck?
How are you getting it Magnus? I-net from the station’s website? I’m not sure how to go about it. I was hoping that they would put her on Syrius-XM so I can listen in the car, since that’s where I am most mornings.
I figured it out. Thanks anyway.
BTW, I forgot the coffee this morning…for you all anyway. I had mine.
Sorry!
His tin foil hat picks up the signal.
I was listening to her over the internet. After a while, it seemed as if there were more commercial than programming. I guess her show is sold out, and then some!
Great baseball’s great baseball and a no-hitter’s great baseball. Got to see Abbott pitch a game during his Michigan Wolverines days, damn impressive ballplayer.
Yeah, but he wouldn’t have gotten to first without Costello.
So, now that he’s retired, who’s on first?
Give him a hand, everyone!
j/k…he did indeed pitch a great game.
I, on the other hand (SWIDT!) just got back from a not-so-great pitched game.
(mumblemumblemumbleDamnYankeesmumblemumble…)
Happy Feast of St. George!
Where’s the breakfast ale?
Check the beer fridge – it’s in the workshop
The “lighter side” of G. K. Chesterton! He was one of Chuck Colson’s favorite writers. I imagine the two of them are speaking with each other, right now!
Maybe in The Inn at the End of the World…
Before 8:00 this morning, I had to:
1. Tell a young man I was dropping him from my course, 2 weeks before the end of the semester (Last Friday when I insisted he email his — by then long-overdue — homework assignment before noon, his response: “I’ve got other things to do.” So today I started with: “Great news, Al! now you’ve got an extra hour in the morning to get all those ‘other things’ done!”)
2. Warn two students that they were failing my class due to (a.) constant late homework submission and (b.) frequent absences.
3. Reprimand a student for plagiarizing a journal entry. A journal entry! a journal, meant to be my writing students’ time to explore the personal, not the academic!
I am now going to consume a Valium the size of my head and take a nap.
Awesome teacher comeback! Have fun with those video games, Al!
He’s well on the road to a Burger King job! Or OWS organizer!
Why should they have to work for their grades? They grew up being told that everybody gets a trophy, so that must be how the world works, right?
There seems to be an exponential increase of the number and severity of stupid people on earth. Case in point…Mrs.-fritz- is a general manager for a restaurant company here in Vegas, which company is based in Corona, CA. Anyway some of the ardent customer complaints, of late, include bubbles in the smoothies, to the French toast having a taste of eggs! Duh!!!
Makes sense. There’s more people to go through public school and then college.
It is because stupid people have more kids, haven’t you seen Idiocracy?
Of course we do. It’s not like we can read. What else are we gonna do but go over to the libary and rent us up some movies?
There are of course exceptions to the rule.
No offense was taken. I know better than to get offended by you
Taking my kids to Wanks. Shed have Mom and Dads full support.
Cretins!
I sincerely hope this is not 99% of the people I share this globe with.
Yup, they are the 99%.
This is why parents of underachievers should make their kids pay for their own college through student loans. Al would care a little more if he realized he’s paying for nothing now. I paid for my own education, plus mucho interest, and I did my homework no matter how many parties I went to, or how hungover I was. I don’t remember any of it, but my transcripts show a consistent 3.7, I had to have cared a little bit.
But I thought Republicans were just dumb rednecks! http://dailycaller.com/2012/04/22/science-say-gop-voters-better-informed-open-minded/
You know, we should just sentence George Zimmerman as guilty now, without a trial, in order to avoid any potential race riots. Why choose the legal system when we can appease Al Sharpton, am I right?

I’ll defer to Ms. Brawley for her opinon.
It wasn’t very helpful that Obama had to add his two cents worth of race-baiting fuel to the fire! The Pivotman in Chief knows nothing about being a leader…he’s always trying to organize sumpthin’!
He’s trying to organize his re-election. That’s all he cares about. With all the violence that goes on in this country, he decided to stick his nose into this one case to earn some free publicity for November, and he doesn’t seem to care that he’s exploiting the death of a young black man, and leaving a young Hispanic man twisting in the wind. It’d be shameful, if he had any shame.
Pivotman or Divotman?
I just heard that there was a 3.9 earthquake off the coast of San Juan Capistrano a little while ago.
Guessing that was just Stephanie slamming shut another suitcase. Just a guess.
It’s just spring. All the sparrows landed at once.
+4 and 20.
You implied blackbirds, therefore you sir are most likely a racist!
Oops – it’s swallows, not sparrows.
And definitely not blackbirds.
Maybe +1939?
I hear Santa Catalina is nice. Do they have swallows there?
I hate that song and now I can’t get it out of my head!!!
Part of my evil plan, Matt. Muhahahaha!
I finally had to just play it over and over on my ukulele until it became white noise…
Crap. I hope saying white noise isn’t racist.
Let’s see: anti-Democracy? Check. Pro-Eugenics? Check. Crazy race-baiter? Check. I think we should nominate this professor for the new Spokesperson of the Green Movement. http://www.prisonplanet.com/professor-norgaard-urged-obama-to-ignore-democracy-public-opinion.html

Michael Mooreon is 57 today…tub of lard.
Two of our worst politicians were born on this day,Stephen Douglas and James Buchanan. These two Democrats,by their actions and inactions, helped hasten the Civil War.Douglas was the father of the Kansas-Nebraska Act,which abrogated the Missouri Compromise, and JB tried to have Kansas admitted to the union under the fraudulent pro slavery Lecompton Constitution(a step that was too much even for Douglas, even though he had opened the door for it by his earlier actions).
Agree with you. At least regarding James Buchanan.
People who say that Bush or Obama is the worst president this country has ever had have obviously never heard of James Buchanan.
The country actually split in two under his watch.
His forte was diplomacy,Kit…he was a splendid ambassador and Secretary of State. The Presidency, alas, was too much for him.
Which is pretty much why he was elected.
He was in Europe when all the cr@p in the US was happening. He was seperated from it and, thus, uncontroversial.
Fortunately, the public chose Lincoln in 1860. If you were going to choose a controversial president who would tick off half the country to the point of secession, Lincoln is the one to go with.
Always gotta blame somebody…

My girlfriend, who’s a nurse, just got a new job as a private nurse to Vaughn Monroe’s widow. You young’n's might not know who he was, but he was a singer, big band leader, trumpeter, songwriter, and actor. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame earlier this year for his hit, Riders in the Sky. I don’t know how she does it, but although her aunt was an actress, she randomly has known celebrities and now has a connection to another by being at the right place at the right time.
Our friend Micah, the 14 yo with bone cancer, has been doing well. Tonight, however, he is running a fever. That needs to go away or he’ll have to go back to the hospital. Prayers would be appreciated.
Just prayed for him. Hope he does well!
Yes Tracy. God bless him!
