Interesting memorial to the paratroopers. It’s a mannequin on the side of the old Norman church at Ste.Mere Eglise, the paratrooper(Steele was his name,Ithink) whose parachute got caught on the church.

This is the stained glass window:

The Normans still think well of us,and the vets who go there are still treated like kings.
That is a neat window! Wow!
A very fitting tribute to the guys who were definitely doing God’s work!
Amazing
Awesome.
Few could tell these brave men’s stories the way Reagan could. Man, it’s dusty around here!
By the way,I saw your website,Kenn…very impressed.
Much appreciated, Scott! In keeping with the theme of this thread – I’m glad my skills are finally being used to tell a story, really worth telling. As they say – “coming soon!”

Great, great men memorialized by another great man — thanks for posting, Outlaw!
+1944 and +1980
Lest it be forgotten, after a horrific struggle up Southern Italy, the Allies entered Rome on June 6,1944.
I hate to bring the current Commie-in-Chief into this and ruin it, but anyone know where he is today, on such a sacred anniversary? Is he in Normandy making an appearance? Is he at Arlington commemorating the event? Is he at one of the bases whose current units share the glorious history of this day?
No …
Comrade Obama is on the Left Coast, attending 4 partisan fundraisers.
Actually, I think that is fitting – the hypocrisy shown every time he ‘honors’ our military is disgusting.
I still want to know what happened to my avatar … I checked gravatar, nothing changed – has something changed here?
You look like the same old handsome Cougar to me.
Make sure the correct e-mail is in the block, that is how it knows what avatar to use.
And we need to remember still, the battle of Midway was not a one day event.
Meanwhile, salvage efforts on Yorktown were encouraging, and she was taken in tow by USS Vireo. In the late afternoon of 6 June, however, Yorktown was struck by two torpedoes from I-168. There were few casualties, since most of the crew had already been evacuated, but a third torpedo from this salvo struck and sank the destroyer USS Hammann, which had been providing auxiliary power to Yorktown. Hammann broke in two with the loss of 80 lives, most due to her own depth charges exploding. Yorktown lingered until just after 05:00 on 7 June.
It is humbling to consider 6/6/42 the war was in doubt, victory seemed far away. But in just two years time, the largest armada that will ever be assembled lead the invasion forces to France.
Reagan, WWII, the 80′s, my buttons are being pushed , had to comment. http://www.threedonia.com/serfs-of-3d
So…’ol Bozo Texino couldn’t unrump his campaign long enough to do some sort of Presidential Memorial to those who gave their lives on D Day to make it possible for his sorry ass to become President? Absolutely appalling!

If anyone knows what I mean by the made up(not by me) name of Bozo Texino, let me know how smart you are. Texans may know more than others. “Ramblers from Houston” should know as well!
Good article on the Army’s D-Day invasion, and why the Marines weren’t around: http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/210918/rivalry-normandy/w-thomas-smith-jr#

Leave to a Marine (the author) to make a story about the Normandy invasion about the Marines. Nice story long on conjecture short on actual fact. The Marines had their hands full in the Pacific, even there the Army invaded those islands along with Marines…not that you’d know it from popular history.
XBradTC also commented on this article at his website better than I could…
