Classic Pick O’ the Day — December 1

Scream (1996)
A killer known as Ghostface begins killing off teenagers, and as the body count begins rising, one girl and her friends find themselves contemplating the “Rules” of horror films as they find themselves living in a real-life one.
Director: Wes Craven. Cast: Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Matthew Lillard, Skeet Ulrich, Rose McGowan, Drew Barrymore, Henry Winkler, Jamie Kennedy, Liev Schreiber. (TV-MA). 8:00 PM EST. IFC.

I’m not much for slasher movies, but I’ve seen enough to recognize the genius twist on the genre Craven pulls off here. This is one of the great movies of the 1990s and who knew that Craven would make a more subtler satirist than Mel Brooks? Also on IFC tomorrow are prior CPODs Night of the Living Dead (6:15 AM) and Event Horizon (10:30 PM).

A mixed bag, but that opening scene with Drew Barrymore is one of the absolute scariest scenes in movie history.

I don’t remember seeing this!! What a perfect flick to watch tomorrow evening! We are expecting the California “SandyKatrina,” so the wind will be howling and the rain will be pounding and I’ll be screaming. (I hope that ghoul doesn’t mistake me for a teenager! Should I be afraid?)

    Kevin Williamson’s script didn’t hurt.

Opening scene also brilliantly skewered in the first Scary Movie, and thanks to I’m Gonna Git You Sucka, I knew Kennen Ivory Wayans had it in him.
