Loyal, I went to the WGBH web site and found that in order to utilize the “free” netflix-type Ralph Lowell Society lending library, one needs only contribute $1500 (but it’s for a full year’s membership and it’s tax deductible).
I think I’ll wait until The Choir is available on netflix or in Amazonia. Thanks again for finding.
Bake sale? Play lottery! No, I got it, apply for a government grant! That’s the ticket Well, I sort of knew it was going to be something or t’other, it’s PBS you know. Sorry
Hello, party people.
So the company housecleaning commences today, who wants to tackle the oven and/or refrigerator?
I am also baking (maybe I’ll wait to clean the oven until after that is done) and I have a co-worker who can’t have wheat and another who can’t have wheat or dairy. This Christmas stuff is not for wimps.
You’re the one doing the cooking, the picky-pants can bring their own if they can’t hack the standard Christmas niceties. Holiday tough love — it’s Sannnnntastic!
People on special restricted diets have to figure it out. Also, hostesses-with-the-mostesses (of which you are one, I’m sure) can make some adjustments, too. I have a “special” loaf of bread in the oven as I type. And at Thanksgiving, my older Sun cooked for paleos and my vegan daughter-in-law. He left a portion of the sweet potatoes without butter; left a portion of the ambrosia without the whipped cream.
Good luck. My diet is a choice. The only thing I’m allergic to is dish washing soap. *o^
You, young lady, had better figure out what to tell Julio. Since your little expedition away last week, he’s been horrible to be around! His pool work has started to suffer and he’s started drinking!
All of the recent mass murderers have been severely mentally ill, already medically recognized as such, and should have been medically controlled with the ease of some pills which they should have been legally forced to take…oh,but that would violate their civil liberty to be bat shit loony!Let’s blame guns!
Yes, it is the real problem. We had a local case a couple of years ago where the parents tried and tried to get their mentally ill son institutionalized but there was no provision for them to do so. He eventually stole their car and purposefully ran a red light, killing several others in a car accident.
Reattaching the Anarchist Soccermom. Its only part of the problem, gonna say it if our old school media types came back and saw what kind of vulgarity and horror is put up on screens, tv, and videos…..not to mention video games. Sorry gang but our culture is a pit hole….
here’s the mental illness plank of our collective issue….
we are at the mercy of progressive nihilistic cultural phenomena. Dads are absent either by choice (Lanza;s dad took the other kid but not Adam. He didn’t want anything to do with Adam), or by court order. Teachers teach the Gay life style to impressionable kindergartners, they inpress their bizarre social issues on kids and undermine values being taught by parents. Then its the music. Violent rappers, etc. When women who ask questions of Rappers and criticize them get attacked and called names and threatened with death and rape…is that the kind of society children should be raised in? Someone has to stand up and say thats all enough. I am not even being a prude but I am starting to think even things I personally like are bad. Bad in ways I didn’t think about. Music, movies etc.
They’re not against violence, Kit, they’re against law-abiding people owning guns. Because when they finally decide to round up their enemies into labor camps, it’ll be alot more helpful if they can’t defend themselves.
And yet, we are strangely the only (still) truly free country in the whole world. The stats are skewed of course. Most gun violence in the USA takes place in areas with the most restrictive gun laws, but lied about the most in the MSM and among those on the left, with aspirations of tyranny!
Yep. One of the other-not-nearly-as-awesome-as-Threedonia web sites referred to the band as the Strolling Bones. It is the evening of the evening seems now for these blokes.
I’ll say the same thing I say to elderly-hater Rufus, who seemingly wants to shuffle the old out the door, even when most of the new and non-battle-tested isn’t a quarter as good: let them play till they don’t want to anymore. BB King keeps doing live gigs, and John Lee Hooker jammed for the masses till the day he died.
I just wish The Stones’d charge John Lee Hooker prices for their shows.
History Channel is producing a mini-series about the Bible that will be airing in March. And if this video is any indication, it might actually be a good, respectful take on the Bible. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1DZA_TdBBI
I dunno, Kit. It did look respectful, but it’s the History Channel, I expect sucker punches. You know, like after this hour two Jesus experts will dissect the flawed narrative and point out a more ancient source this story was taken from. That would be very History channel, but, we shall see!
When it comes to the Bible, History/Discovery/NatGeo Channels will always take a wrong turn somewhere and make an attempt to place doubt as to the validity of it. I have never seen a truly honest program from them on Christianity without tossing out some “other” explanation for Jesus’ resurrection, or the Noah Flood or the parting of the Red Sea, etc. Repeat…always! And some of the fringe theologians they reference are sometimes almost laughable. They do toss in a sprinkling of a good one or two now and again, but never let them expound too much truth.
I still remember last Christmas’ offering on the history channel, they did their level best to portray Christ as “opressed Palestinian under foreign occupation” never using the words, of course. It was sickening.
And check out this quote: “But the great advances of mankind come about not from statesmen, but from ordinary people. Governments across the world appear stuck in what Michael Lind, on page 30, describes as an era of ‘turboparalysis’ — all motion, no progress. But outside government, progress has been nothing short of spectacular.” In other words, despite Big Government’s best attempts to screw everything up, globalization and the invisible hand of the free market persevere.
I think I like working at my job, free Prime Rib for lunch and took home a new Blu Ray home theater for Christmas, totally gratas…never got one of those in the Army that’s for sure.
“Heigh ho, the holly! This life is most jolly.”
I’ve been holding off commenting first every morning in order to allow others to experience the unmitigated joy of being first.
Hi de ho, to you, man!
You’re welcome.

What a co-inky-dink that I just received this. Response #1 is my favorite.

As long as he is still rocking his six pack and his speedo, he can drink all he wants.
Riiiggghhhttt! I’ll tell him, but he’s now complaining about the rain, 50 degrees, and 25-30 mph winds! He’s freezing his pool-dipper off!

The old bat’s at it again.
We need to ban old bats.
So stupid. Because it is the pistol grips that are the real problems. JEEZ.

Nail hit on the head, Stephanie! A lot of the American culture smells like rotting garbage!
We heart volcanoes!

Wow, people advocating for gun control by advocating violence against those who don’t. Ironic?

Then there’s what the MSM tells us is the rest of the world’s take on USA gun violence:

What’s the big deal? I had a crush on Stevie Winwood for a while.
And speaking of bones and rock stars, happy birthday to Keith Richards! He doesn’t look a day over 106!

They have done revisionist nuttiness but also WWII in HD so, as I said, it could go either way.

Encouraging article from the UK Spectator about why 2012 was, despite all the doom and gloom out there, the best year for the human race yet- prosperity’s up, while poverty, war, and disease are at an all-time low. http://www.spectator.co.uk/the-week/leading-article/8789981/glad-tidings/

Yes Jimmy, but things won’t bee truly good until every speed bump on the road to Utopia has been eliminated.
Did someone say Road to Utopia?
Thought you meant Bob Hope and Bing Crosby!
Gotcha! Although I was trying to snare Eric…
I think I like working at my job, free Prime Rib for lunch and took home a new Blu Ray home theater for Christmas, totally gratas…never got one of those in the Army that’s for sure.
Movie night at Outlaw’s — I’ll bring the popcorn!
Cool. What are we watching?
Justified – Season 3. Remember, every DVD or Blu-Ray purchase puts $90,000 in Mr. Searcy’s pocket. The man has kids’ mouths to feed, don’tcha know.
I see how it is with you Tink. FYI, I have no pool boy.
So you’ll be sporting the speedo then? Good to know.
Oh,look,there’s Mr. Tink!

Watching Meet Me In St. Louis
Judy Garland had a great singing voice and in the movie is VERY easy on the eyes but the little sisters are annoying!
