Forgive me for kicking this hornets nest, but I have to get it off my chest after reading your link, Scott.
The one thing every secessionist declaration in the 1860s had in common: Slavery. But those who think it was just fine for the States to secede will tell you over and over again that secession had nothing to do with slavery. It was all about “States’ Rights”. Sure, and the “right” that was first and foremost in the minds of those pushing secession was ensuring that some human beings could treat other human beings as property.
Exactly, Daniel. And to say that it’s your “right” to deprive someone else of their basic human rights, is a bunch of crap.
That said, I get that this new secessionist talk is about making a statement against Obama’s policies, but I just don’t think it’s a good idea. No matter who’s in the White House, we’re a united country, and we need to stay that way.
I add that the Founders did have slavery in mind when they revolted, not Southern slavery, of course. Although Southern slavery was the impetus behind our Civil War, today’s secessionists have the anti-King George sentiment at the fore.
I like to think we area united country, but I don’t think we are.
Secession is a very extreme act but it can’t be eliminated from the options of the civil revolt. It is a slippery slope to associate modern day secessionism (I just made that word up)and other means of revolt against this oppressive emperor with racism. The Democrats will stand by and watch us hang ourselves with it.
Someone/something wanted me up on time this morning. My alarm clock went off at 6 AM. The weird thing is that I forgot to set it, so I had to unplug it to stop the alarm.
“After eight years of charisma and four years of the clubhouse”…Koch’s gift to NY was pulling it back from the abyss on which it teetered. He hated John Lindsey(“eight years of charisma”),and the hard left hated him.I miss him already.
Coffee, krullers, and caramba! Yes Caramba! The Nevada state legislature..or more precisely the democrats therein, want to fire up a state income tax. We’ve done just fine without it since halloween of 1864! Bastards have to tax everything that exists! Thank you California for running all your rejects over to Nevada!
I could find at least a million people who would have been proud to actually SING the anthem of their country in Washington. My TV will be off at halftime.
Steve Capus FINALLY fired as President of NBC. Maybe the next guy they hire should consider, you know, just reporting the news instead of deceptively editing it to make conservatives look bad. Just a thought.
The Mystic Monks brought back Chocolate Cherry coffee for Valentine’s Day. I’m not a huge fan of flavored coffees, but the Monks do that one and Chocolate Mint right.

The post was meant in fun,Dan’l,otherwise I wouldn’t have quoted Wooderson as a preface.Hell,my state at least waited 65 years before it bolted!

I forgot to say that our Founders gave us Federalism because they rejected slavery to king, the big centralized gubmit.

From The Earth To The Moon featuring Nick Searcy. Awesome miniseries.
I just saw this at FoxNews.com:

I think it’d be fair to say that he was one of the last honest Democrats who wasn’t afraid to call out his political compatriots for their stupidity.

Happy birthday to the late, great Andrew Breitbart. You’re missed every day down here, sir.
Gone too soon,Andrew, but you left an empire behind…even John Nolte!
I knew there was a reason that I wasn’t used to February. RIP, Breitbart, and we’ll keep fighting down here in the trenches.

I figure even Old Testament types like Schumer are going to bail on this clown.

So who’d like to try out some ballistic underwear? Zip up (pun intended) to the 2:00 minute mark just so you know what your “junk” might experience.
