This video is a few years old, but NFL Films did this on pregame flyovers and it’s pretty awesome. I love the reaction shots of the players and coaches… nothing impresses like raw power and speed. When the planes are yours it’s like being an awestruck kid. There’s even some helicopter love for Outlaw.
The fly-over is usually my favorite part of most sporting events.
1:17 Derek Thomas’s dad died in Viet Nam. Who knew? I’m reminded again as I b!tch and moan that I have the privilege to b!tch and moan and live my life because of the thousands of men, anonymous to me, who have fought for me. God bless our heroes. God bless America.
My best friend from high school, Dwayne Horgan, was an Army Capt. and was killed in Vietnam 2 weeks after he arrived. He had the misfortune of arriving there just as the Tet Offensive was getting fired up by the VC! RIP Dwayne! Miss you buddy!
Just part of the jingoistic military crap at sporting events which leads to silencing political dissent. At least that’s what I learned from the most recent Red Eye one professor thinks. Ha! A professor thinking. No offense, Floyd.
Saw that. Another red-letter day for dumbass professors everywhere.
Derrick Thomas & flyover games: part of Chiefs fan folklore.
Made me tear up, just to watch. RIP, DT.
There’s a lot of skill involved to make one of these come off correctly. The timing is critical.
Sadly, becomming a thing of the past due to budget cuts. Expect fewer and fewer of them, especially if the sequestration cuts occur.
Notice the earlier dated flyovers were much lower than they are today – flyers used to be able to get away with a lot more, now FAA regs have tamed things down quite a bit.
This one got some folks with the 25th FTS in trouble …

Here’s the embed to Cougar67′s link above. Awesome.
Betcha THAT one ripped some ears off!
I love it. Still it makes me sad. I see obsolete aircraft (B-52), aging aircraft (F-16, F-15), great aircraft that the fools can´t wait to retire (A-10) and great new aircraft that we haven´t actually built in any numbers after spending a fortune on development (B-2, F-22). The F-22 shows up in lots of movies (Transformers, Pacific Rim) as if we had more than a handful. Illusion over reality. Sign of the times.
