If you really want to heart of a news story skip the lede and just read the last few (four or five) paragraphs. The final sentence is, to me, the most telling:
“Indeed, Wiccan and pagan observances on the guide outnumbered most of the other religions’ holidays listed.”
So, it’s a popularity contest. Since the satanists have more “holidays” simply because they requested more, admin should intervene to ensure parity, equality, balance, diversity, no?

Personally, I will likely be watching the Chopped Champion Finale on the Food Network. Not highbrow, to be sure, but at least they will have accomplished something by the end of their time on the television.

I just finished Killing Lincoln, and I’d highly recommend it if you’re looking for a good read. O’Reilly recounts the end of the Civil War (post-Gettysburg), the assassination of Lincoln and the manhunt for the assassins in the style of a Tom Clancy-esque thriller, and he adds in lots of fascinating details and historical anecdotes that didn’t make it into the history books. Excellent stuff.
I want to read this and see the movie. FTR, I love the stories, but I just can’t read Tom Clancy because I can’t get past the technical writing. It reminds me of Melville’s descriptions of whales.

Ah, thanks you guys! I’m alive, and I sincerely apologize for being gone so long.
There’s been an awful lot of stuff happening, and though I keep meaning to stop by and say hello, somehow it doesn’t happen. That’s on me, and you have my mea culpa for that.
For the record, I bought a house in June of last year. It’s a lovely little bungalo built in 1942. Since it’s just me and my 14 year old daughter, I figured now was a good time to downsize. Boy howdy did we downsize.
In addition, I’ve gotten into the VA’s spinal injury pain management program, so now it’s just waiting for the first appointment and we’ll see how that goes.
I hope to have my own blog back up and operating next month, with a few small tweaks to it and to the content I want to cover.
But listen to me going on and on. I see some of you on FaceBook and I promise that after this week I’ll be more of a regular here. It’s such a neat place with a wonderful cornucopia of posts and great comments. Thanks again for the kind wishes. It means a very great deal to this old airdale.
