First …. to wish you a Happy Birthday!!! Use Wank’s key wisely … which means, often.
Hey! Let me hold those keys for ya. And happy birthday,
babygoozer.[First ... right after Helm]
And speaking of birthdays, I’m on baby watch. I spent last night all by myself here
on baby watch. Today might be the day!! Think pink.
Good luck on the little bundle!
Woo Hoo!!! Can’t wait to hear the little one is here safe and sound!
Am I misunderstanding something? TCR…are you PG?
I’m still mad at you, so I can’t respond because I’m not speaking to you. But if I were, here’s what I’d say:
Yeah, I’m PG … my patience is gone.
I’m sorry. I can’t handle discord! BTW…who’s the father?
P-a-r-t-h-e-n-o-g-e-n-e-s-i-s. I’d tell you what is means, but I’m not speaking to you. Look it up. We can discuss it if I ever start speaking to you again. Hold your breath. The time goes by quicker.
[;)]
I know what it means. Not casting stones, but most likely not a virgin birth in this case I’d wager!
The silent treatment has been extended indefinitely.
I’ll be out catching unicorns if anyone wants to know.
Please don’t be mad at me. After all, I am just another insensitive man with only cupcakes on the brain!
Forgiven. Done. I don’t even remember why I was mad at you … not that it matters.
Now, maybe I slept too long one day and missed something, but what is this pregnancy all about. Are you gonna be a Grandma, or is it you becoming a momma again?
You must have missed class with goozer that day, too. Grand Dotter!!! I will finally be able to buy a Barbie!!
Cool! Grandkids are wonderful!
No, I was in class that day! Congrats, GTCR!
OK. She’s here! Texacalirosetta arrived this afternoon! Ten and ten, pink, hungry, chubby, beautiful.
[Do they sell Barbies in Amazonia?]
Congrats Abuela
Congratulations on the blessed event!
!!!
Wonderful! Ten and ten? Oh, my!
Fingers and toes, not pounds and ounces.
My Sun, TCRosetta’s father was 10 and 11, pounds and ounces. Ouch!
Flattery, bribery, grovelling. Which will it be? (and my Patience had triplets about five weeks ago, BAH!)
Parthenogenesis.
The Parthenon!
Same etymology.
Who said anything about insects!
Where’s the fun in that?
It’s not about fun. It’s about duty … and sometimes charity.
You see, goozer, your serf status is confirmed once and for all, welcome to land of cotton, where old times are not forgotten. Happy Birthday, goozer! Now, if someone would update the serfs page, we could include the grand duchess of serfs as well (TCR). (which reminds me TCR, I think you missed the last lessons from [cold] war movies, http://www.threedonia.com/archives/58286 )
Got a wedding to attend today, so a lurking I ,as usual, will be.
Here’s my story, it’s sad but true. Back in the day, I was being vetted for greatness. Rufus was going to interview me for inclusion in the fold. (I coudda been a contender, I coudda been somebody). Due to circumstances I’ve told y’all before, before that happened, I had to slip outta here under the cover of darkness. No regrets, but I’m happy to be back. I like it here. That’s it. Look away. Look away.
P.S. Stay away from the groom’s garter toss and the punch bowl. I’ll tell you why later.
Not much worry there, TCR. It’s a “panties in a bunch church lady” wedding.
Should I remind them what the first miracle our Lord did? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Maerten_de_Vos_-_Bruiloft_van_Cana.JPG?qsrc=3044
“Oh, my, Muriel! The punch is delicious. It tastes like Welch’s only better.”
I must’ve missed class that day — I don’t remember the Tale of Texicalirose…
If Tracy will do the honors again I will put them on the page.
Woohoo!
Cut and Paste, Tracy, it’s your best friend……..
Happy Birthday, Goozer… if that’s your real name.
His real name is mythical.
I Am Legend.
Or Legion,for you are many!
Have a great one, Gooz!
Happy Birthday! Don’t %*#@ this one up, goozer!!!!
Excellent!
Happy birthday,Senor Goozer!

The charge of the Scots Greys at Waterloo,June 18,1815.Lots of great horses!
Feliz Cumpleaños, Señor Goozer!! … At least that’s what Google Translate tells me is Spanish for Happy Birthday.
Sapo Verde would also have been acceptable.
That’s like “hippo birdy two ewes,” ain’t it?
Hmmmmmmmm…loses something in the translation, methinks.
The Rosetta Stone.
http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/marines-raise-the-flag-on-mt-suribachi
Great image, but the battle went on for another month,a very bloody month.
Don’t tell Outlaw! “The raising of the flag on Suribachi means a Marine Corps for the next 500 years.” James Forrestal, Secretary of the Navy.
Remember Okinawa
semper ubi sub ubi
I think the Marines do a great job, they just don’t have to tell everyone about it every 5 seconds or forget the others who were there at the same time. At places such as, Okinawa, Khe Sanh, Fallujah, An Najaf, I could go on but I think I made my point.
About 10,000 US Army dead on Okinawa.Point well taken.
…they just don’t have to tell everyone about it every 5 seconds….
The postwar Corps shrank to fit federal budgets rather than adjust realistically to fit the contingency needs of the Cold War era. Available manpower fell to 83,000 men in 1948 and dropped to just over 74,000 by the spring of 1950. About 50,000 men were assigned to the operating forces, but the FMF had only about 30,000 men in the two skeltal divisions and aircraft wings. Fewer than 12,000 Marines comprised FMFPac which included the 1st Division at Camp Pendleton and the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW) at El Toro, California. On the East Coast, the 2d Division at Camp Lejeune and the 2d MAW at Cherry Point, making up FMFLant, numbered just under 16,000 Marines. At the outbreak of the Korean War, no Marine unit of any size was based or deployed in the Far East.
The Corps’ supporting establishment was so small and its tasks for maintaining Marine Corps bases so extensive that many FMF troops spent more time housekeeping than training. The Marine Corps share of the federal budget was simply not enough to buy adequate manpower, training, or new equipment. The main threat to the nation was seen in inflation and unbalanced budgets rather than in the Soviet armed forces. On the eve of the Korean War, the FMF seemed doomed to fall to six battalion landing teams and twelve squadrons in 1950.
If Marines seem to be spotlight hogs, it’s based in the hard realities of public perception that translates into federal monies. Even after Forrestal’s declaration, the above occurred. My father still recounts tranfering from Quantico in 1951, because the “Original Bean Counter” was starving him out.
So what?
The USAF is about to be shrunk into nothingness…I’m sure everyone is lining up to sing a song of sadness for them in USMC land.
These decisions should have nothing to do with what you’ve done in the past, it is how relevant you can be to today’s conflicts.
Besides if you toot your own god-damn horn at the expense of others then I’ve got nothing but scorn for you. Which is pretty much what they do all the time.
Any reduction in readiness is to be lamented. Why do US Marines use Springfield 1903 and Browning 1917 during the battle of Guadalcanal? The M1 was the primary weapon at the start of the war. However, you have to realize that the numbers of the military went up 1000% during WW2. Until war production could truly get ramped up, many units had to deal with what they were issued, which was WW1 era equipment and weapons. That being said, the Marines generally are on the tail end of getting any new equipment. Even today, they still use the M16 over the M4, they still use the M1A1 Abrams over the M1A2 SEP V2 that the Army uses. They use Cobras instead of Apaches, and they were one of the last branches to get rid of the Huey. Marines take it as a point of pride to be able to do more with less.
That’s WWII, here’s Vietnam
I just don’t see the expense of others part, I’m sure it exists. Esprit de corps can come off as all others suck, if you’re an other.
They are fielding brand new AH-1Z and UH-1Y helicopters as well as the V-22 and F-35.
The reason they still have M-16s and not the M-4 is by choice. They are buying new M-16A3s not getting old ones from the Army. THey are also buying a new .45 pistol from Colt that the Army isn’t getting.
Did you know there were Army personnel on Guadalcanal? The entire Pacific theater went without stuff not just the Marines. The AAF flew hand me down export versions of the P-39 that was a sitting duck against the Zero for the first couple of years of the war.
The Army relieved the Marines at Khe Sanh, have you ever heard that?
The Army breached the fortifications in Falujah for the Marines, I know because I was there…I’m sure you have heard about that from someone other than me. The Corps propagandists can’t be bothered to tell the entire story.
Marines…shipboard soldiers originally.
Sheeps in Navyland!
Now that I got that business out of the way … here’s one of the dumbest articles I’ve seen National Review post at NRO.com:
“Lincoln’s Lost Opportunities: Trashing red-state values has cost Disney and Fox millions of dollars”
Mark Joseph’s makes three points. Conservatives kept Lincoln from making 100s of millions of dollars more because 1) it was made by … brace yourself … Liberals … ooh, and those Liberals said dumb things while promoting the film; 2) it included … are you sitting down? … curse words … oh, my sensitive Christian ears; and finally 3) the filmmakers and stars failed to promote the film on Glenn Beck’s, Sean Hannity’s, Bill O’Reilly’s, et al conservative media shows.
This is why an overwhelming majority of folks think conservatives are a bunch of idiotic, prudish Church Ladies who get their panties in a bunch while watching a bit of entertainment in the midst of which someone vociferously declares that God might damn something. And if you don’t go see a film because it was made by Liberals who don’t want to appear on the radio with a conspiracy nutter (yeah, I’m looking at Glenn Beck) then don’t complain about what’s going on in the culture. Have fun in your bunker with your seed bank and gold bars.
I can’t believe National Review published this nonsense.
On the curse words front, I can say that it doesn’t generally bother me, as long as it’s consistent with the story. In Lincoln’s case, I don’t believe this to be true, and he does point that out in the article.
But what I really dislike is the idea that in order to change the culture, I have to go see whatever is presented for my viewing. I’m not necessarily talking about the Lincoln film here, but most of what comes out of the film industry is not something I want to spend my time and money watching. I keep hearing that if I don’t, I have no right to say anything about how our culture is quickly disintegrating, but I don’t have to immerse myself in crap to tell you it smells. This is a (some what)free market. I vote with my wallet. I go see the stuff that interests me, I don’t see the stuff that doesn’t. This means I don’t see a lot of “Christian” films either. If either side wants me to see their movie, they’re going to have to tell me a good story and quit force feeding me their agendas. Now I need to get back to my bunker….
I’m so glad you comment, Tracy, so I don’t have to
Now, I’m off to order The Hobbit…
Tell it, Tracy!
Some historians believe Lincoln used off-color language; others do not (they all, it seems, acknowledge that he enjoyed bawdy humor). Given the stresses he was under – Civil War, slavery, death threats, ect. – I can’t imagine him NOT uttering G– D—-, or something stronger, at some point in time.
I have no problem with anyone watching what they want to watch. Going to a film isn’t all that cheap these days so one should be circumspect spending disposable income on entertainment. I do have issues, however, with folks who declare a film unwatchable simply because it was written and directed by a couple of Democrats. That’s just dumb. The same goes with someone who says, which is what Joseph was effectively arguing, “My favorite right-wing commentator didn’t get to interview the filmmakers and sign off on the film so I’m not going to see it.”
If Joseph’s standards for going to see a movie include made by Republicans, interviewed by Sean Hannity, and nothing worse than “darn” or “ah, shucks” when it comes to harsh language, he’s going to have a limited viewing experience.
Yeah…preach it girl!
Pretty stupid stuff! The culture seems to think all Christians are puritans, but balks at the idea that all muslims are terrorists. The televangels who sell this holiness crap certainly don’t help. It needs to be screamed from every pulpit, Christians aren’t perfect, we are forgiven!!
I didn’t see Lincoln, but eagerly await it’s release on DVD. The fact of the matter is that Hollywood has so pushed the culture that nothing it does can be seen as great art, simply cashing in. At the least, they didn’t try to reinvent Lincoln or do some romantic-comedy out of the material. Speaking of which, http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2013/03/why-are-romantic-comedies-so-bad/309236/?single_page=true
Well, strike me dumb, but I don’t remember any profanity in the movie. Does this say more about me than about the movie? I really, really didn’t like the film for reasons I’ve spewed around here before. Profanity was not one of the reasons, so now I’ll just ask this: Is it that profanity has become prosaic so my ear is hardened, numbed to it, or is it that the profanity in Lincoln was not … uh, gratuitous?
Doris Goodwin, who wrote the book on which the film is based didn’t think the script was problematic. Other historians who gave feedback to Kushner disagreed. And some who thought Lincoln might not have soiled has lips with such language still acknowledge F-bombs were tossed around, even then. Go figure … disagreement among academics.. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/steven-spielbergs-lincoln-what-f-397899
Yep. Queen Victoria’s interference was political not social.
“Deadwood” anyone?
What’s the connection? I went to the city of Deadwood in 1998, but I haven’t seen the HBO series. Explain, please.
More f-bombs per capita in an hour of that series than in all of Goodfellas.
I can see clearly now. Thank you!
I didn’t see the movie, just don’t have the time and money right now, so I don’t know the answer to your question.
If your entertainment canary gives the thumbs up and the grocery money stretches over, we can take up our discussion … on Lincoln and Outlander?
I saw the movie. I thought it was mediocre but enjoyable historical drama with an amazing performance by Daniel Day-Lewis. 3 1/2 stars.
Anyway, he cites Christian Answers. Now, if I recall thats the same website Left Behind 5-stars.
Left. Behind.
Not “moral” quality, but FILMMAKING QUALITY!!!
I’d say happy birthday Goozer, but you don’t seem to enjoy “happy” very much
, so I’ll just say Let. It. Burn.
Ha! I’m actually a charming, witty, and pretty even-tempered fellow. Humble, too!
Oh, sure … calling yourself the thread winner over there when I was really the thread winner over there and had to call myself the thread winner over there. You know what I mean. You know what I’m talkin’ ’bout.
The Happiest of Birthdays to “our” very own goozer, whatever the heck that is! Here’s a special Birthday song, chosen especially for you!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-28jAoTPFw
Be sure and keep those cupcakes covered and not in your shirt. People here might misunderstand!
I keep my cupcakes in my shirt … lately … except at the beach.
Umm, aah, which beach would that be?
The one with sand.
(Tasteful) Pics and/or GPS coordinates or it didn’t happen!
Tasty cupcakes? Stop it! Both of you.
Yep. That’s your new nickname right there!
Happy birthday, Goozer! Jack Black says “no drumming!” but I say, do what you have to do.
Got no dog in this hunt
http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/341301/oscar-watch-nro-symposium?pg=1
From what I heard,Oscars start at 4PM Pacific Time.Guess they really want to get through by midnight.
Well, my blood pressure just exploded, when I read this: http://thepatriotperspective.wordpress.com/2013/02/23/oregon-gun-ban-bill-includes-police-inspection-of-gun-owners-homes/
Don’t think the bill will pass – but just the fact that people, in this state, elected the morons who are trashing constitutionally protected rights is enough to have me packing my bags and moving in a South-Easterly direction.
It’s sad the constitution means nothing to these people…
Think we need a law that if you propose a law, clearly in violation of the constitution – we get to throw you in jail.
Laws are interpreted by the courts, therein lies the problem.
That’s being proposed as we speak in … TEXAS! And another state or two are following suit.
How many times do I have to say this: They’re “inspections,” not “searches.” No 4th Amendment issues what-so-evah!! Just ask Justice Roberts. He knows the difference between a “tax” and a “fee,” too. We’re in good hands. I’ll be in my bunker.
Happy Birthday mi Hermano!
Hermano!!!
Sorry, with a bandmate working on the sound mix, been feeling a little extra Arrested Development-ish lately.

Two people in a taxi…how sad.
The only good thing … well, there is nothing good about it except the gangsta is dead. The other outstanding suspect driver needs to be dead, too.
I blame ubama.
It’s ubama’s fault.
From ubama’s iPod.
I found out that this song was playing the night he proposed to Mooshelle:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKO_En39l9c
I thought that was playing when he picked his Secretary of State, both of them.
Both…yes!
All I know from this is that I’m never getting in any vehicle powered by propane.
Happy birthday, Goozer – my favorite 3D an-i-mal.
So, Mr. Make.Do is interested to hear what y’all have to say about QE3. Has this been covered on ThreeD already?
Is that a Carnival Cruise?
Quantitative Easing 3… Rufus can speak more authoritatively on that on the specifics, but in general flooding the economy with money causes inflation.
Quantattive Easing…sounds like when I take a dump.
The same way I felt about QE1 & QE2, only 17 trillion times worse.
More liberal bullshit?
http://news.investors.com/ibd-editorials/022213-645544-is-film-argo-just-an-attempt-at-reviving-carters-reputation.htm
I’m not sure whomever wrote that op-ed even saw the movies he talked about.
In Argo… the Canadians are clearly credited — especially the Ambassador and his wife and housekeeper. Carter is portrayed as not even knowing about the plot until the very last minute and then he puts the kaibosh on it. Only after Mendez decides “fuck it” I’m doing it in violation of orders do they contact Carter directly because he had put a full stop on it. By my lights it clearly paints Carter in a relatively weak light. In typical liberal fashion — especially of the Carter variety — he decides to see what he wants. He’s too narcissistic and obtuse to see that he is, even in a relatively friendly portrayal, his weakness is so obvious that even a Hollywood gloss can’t hide it.
Zero Dark Thirty… if anything that movie paints Bush’s policies as getting stuff done and Obama policies as muddying things up so much. Yeah there are a couple of lines here and there, but that film is great also.
My quibble with Argo was the Carter voice-over at the end that conveniently forgot to mention Operation Eagle Claw, which ended with the incident at Desert One.
The rest of the film was just fine by me.
Zero Dark Thirty was good, there were some things that I noticed that were inaccurate, but it was nit-picky stuff and didn’t have a bearing on the plot or direction of the film.
As has been mentioned before conservatives (or anyone else for that matter) hurt their overall point when they go around mouthing off about things they don’t really understand.
I’m sure you do to military movies what I do to courtroom dramas….
Yep I’m a joy to watch war movies with.
That reminds me of something,Floyd…how people in movies and TV jump on airplanes with no visa or passport!
I can just imagine what you thought of Double Jeopardy!
Floyd, I saw the exact same movies as you. ‘Xactly what you said.
I’m gonna have to put Argo and Zero Dark Thirty on my Netflix list. And when I watch Argo I’ll just turn down volume during the Carter voice-over at the end.
Yeah Daniel… I got the feeling that Affleck and Clooney felt so bad that they painted Carter in such a bad light — the Carter Administration was a shit sandwich and no amount of mayo, vegetables, and fancy bread can cover up the shit — that they offered this sop to the doddering old fool.
Yeah, and I’m the only one here that voted for him…young dumbass!
Where is the birthday boy?? It’s time to cut the cake and I’ve got a tango lesson in an hour.
Tango or Django?
Speaking of the Tango…have you ever seen Assassination Tango with Robert Duvall? Not too bad a movie and some great Tango scenes if you’re interested.
No, & I just checked netflix with negative results.
ButtBut I will tell you that after I saw Last Tango in Paris, I couldn’t eat butter for years.Whatever you do, don’t listen to “Krisco Kisses” by Frankie Goes to Hollywood!
If you get the Encore Channels on cable, they show it every so often.
Who the heck knows. Unless it comes on right after Wheel of Fortune, I probably won’t find it.
I found the Encores. Open Range (Duvall!) is playing on Encore Western. I love that movie! I’ll watch for Assassination Tango.
Again I ask, would the lady like to dance?
Rodolfo Alfonso Raffaello Pierre Filibert Guglielmi di Valentina d’Antonguolla is rolling in his grave.
A little help, perhaps! Please!
I was using IE 8 up till yesterday, and 3D always remembered my log in…name and e-mail address, everytime I got on. Now with the updated IE 9, 3D dumps the info everytime I leave 3D and then come back. Anybody know why? I can log it when get here, and it’ll stay till I leave. It’s getting terribly irritating! Thanks for advice.
Nevermind. I figured out the problem. I really just don’t like IE 9. They make things more complicated while trying to make it all more user friendly!
I hate that crap. All these phones and computers don’t come with directions or instructions either. The kids and everyone else younger than I seem to know instinctively how they operate. “How do I check my email from my phone?” [Sun grabs phone out of my hand]. Zip, zip. “Here, Mom. Do this, this, and this.”
I hate that crap.
Firefox, man, Mozilla Firefox… that’s the browser for me
I have tried Google Chrome a few times. It seems OK. I’m just a victim of habit I guess.
Here I am! I was up late last night reading a couple of ‘new’ books I just picked up (Ringworld’s Children by Larry Niven and The Tyranny of Cliches by Jonah Goldberg.) So I slept in a little, and when I got up, I started my laundry. In just a few minutes I’m going to start my late lunch – grits over eggs sunny and runny with bacon. That’s me — a party Animal all the way!
Thanks for all the birthday wishes — and while I have the keys to the liquor cabinet (thanks, Wanks!), allow me to serve a more suitable drink for the occasion!
Too bad you’re late. The kids here licked all the frosting off your cupcakes!
I’m not surprised, judging from the censored image quality of the icing!
(I really did have a NSFW image in the original post, but took it out so as not to offend TCR’s sensibilities.)
Go ahead. I can quit speaking to you, too. And who says I’m sensible?
Laundry and tequila shooters, huh? Entonces “chores y salud!”
Negative on the Ta-kill-ya. I’d rather drink the fabric softener.
Well, we toasted the bride and the groom with sparkling cider. I’m still giddy……
The good thing is this will be the extent of your hangover.
Happy birthday, Goozer.
Happy Birthday to my favorite monster! I hope your day has been grand!

Slow-Joe Biden says lots of dumb things, but conservatives look rather lame when they start making up stuff he said. I saw on Facebook what was supposed to another Biden-ism: “No Ordinary American cares about their Constitutional Rights,” allegedly uttered when he appeared at an anti-gun rally on February 21, 2013 at a forum at Western Connecticut State University.
Aside: have you noticed that the only place these days just about anyone from this Administration can go where they can get even a smattering of applause are colleges and universities?.
The problem with that quote is it’s a fake. From what I’ve found he didn’t say it. Brietbart.com made that the headline of their post which included embedded video from the event – http://www.breitbart.com/Breitbart-TV/2013/02/22/Biden-No-Ordinary-American-Cares-About-Their-Constitutional-Rights-Facebook-Questions-are-Plants.
Now the Right-wing fever swamps are running with it, and making conservatives looking like a bunch of nutters.
What he said is bad enough – and for a clearer audio check out the Washington Times post on the event – so don’t get fooled by something you might see on Facebook about the latest Biden-gasm.
Thanks again for the party, y’all…now who’s gonna stay to help me clean this mess up?
Ummm…Not I! Maybe the ladies here will step up to the plates!
::snaps -fritz- with a dish towel::
Get busy, and make me a sammich while you’re at it.
And do it with a smile. Birthday’s over.
Last! ^
