Ray Winstone is kick ass. In the late 1960s and early 1970s as LBJ’s”Great Society” social policies started to result in skyrocketing crime rates and urban decay Hollywood came out with a bunch of films reflecting that (Dirty Harry, The French Connection, Death Wish, et al.). I see no difference in this and a spate of British crime films (of which this and Harry Brown are the most obvious) and TV shows reflecting similar decay in Britain. IN any case, this looks great.
It does look good. There’s something extra thuggy about thug Brits. This reminded me of another heist movie set in Britain,
The Bank Job. It’s based on a real incident, the Baker Street Robbery, 1971.
No netflix love on either that I could find.
Seen “Sexy Beast” with Winstone and Ben Kingsley?Talk about some thugs!
Two more good ones:”The Krays” and “The Long Good Friday”(Bob Hoskins and Helen Mirren!)
Bob Hoskins —–> Iago, the king of thugs.
The best.
Sir Anthony too!
Love.
Oooooh, The Krays — love it! That much is true-oo-oo.
Had a sweet mum, too, didn’t they?Reminds me of that old Monty Python sketch,The Piranha Brothers.
Ray Winstone in the lead role — awwwww yeeeeeaaahhh!!!
“Get your trousers on — you’re nicked!”
Looks good, but I have trouble understanding the dialect. And I’m a dialect guy. Usually pretty good at it, but a thick Cockney defeats me. I had a friend in Florida who was a Cockney transplant, and I generally had to ask him to repeat everything he said.
Looks just grand. Too bad there’s no Vinnie Jones. There should be a law in Britain that Vinnie Jones has to be in all British thug movies. The only Ray Winstone movie I couldn’t sit through was 44 Inch Chest. Great cast and performances yet managed to bore me.
