From over at Big Hollywood comes this knee slapper…
Everybody Lay off Janeane!
by Tom Shillue
I like her. And yes, she is funny. If you’ve only seen her on political talk shows, you’re going to have to take my word for it.I did a show with her in NYC the other night, and she was delightful. A small room in the West Village, packed with people, everyone laughing. She’s a comedian, and a good one. I prefer her more personal material to the political stuff, but that’s the way I feel about most comedians. After the show we spoke, and at one point I reminded her that I’m kind of right-wing. “That’s you’re problem,” she said, and then we got back to the friendly talk. We went on to have a great conversation and share some laughs. On a personal level, I always have a good time with her, and you would too. Believe me…
I have no reason to doubt Tom Shilue’s sincerity or his honesty so I will take him at his word that he does indeed find Ms. Garofalo a hale lady well met. Good for him. But I would find it hard if I was in his position and I did lean to the right (which he claims that he does) and be able to joke and cut up with someone who (if you take them at their videotaped word) believes you and everyone like you to be a racist teabagging redneck. I kind of draw the line at things like that…but hey that’s just me. I just don’t think I’d be including her in my circle of friends after that and other similar remarks she has made over the past several years.
But of course I don’t know how someone like Mary Matland (if she steadfastly has the beliefs that she says she does) could stay with James Carville (if he actually believes the things he professes to believe)…makes you wonder if their world views are so diametrically opposed (allegedly) how can they stay together…I know opposites attract but really? REALLY?
So go ahead and try and convince me that Janeane Garofalo is really a nice person…you just have to get to know her is all. I’m sure the prison guards at Dachau had friends who thought them to be all around swell guys as well…and you see how that worked out. I seem to recall reading that some mass murderer who was in prison facing the death penalty was interviewed by a reporter who came away thinking that this person (who had murdered many young girls) was the nicest guy ever. So what I am saying is not that this woman is a Nazi or a mass murderer, but that appearances can be deceiving and after all, she is an actress…not much of one but an actress none the less.
One more thing…
Tom, I’ve got some oceanfront property in Arizona I would like to sell you.
Rosie O’Donnell, anyone?
Makes me wonder if he is being tongue in cheek here. And a quick thread jack..and this is for Outlaw: My bro in law got me a ride in a B 17. Yes, a Flying Fortress. Next August in Leesburg VA! HOT DOG!
I left a comment. It was not nice. I think I even dropped he word “Chamberlain” in there for good measure.
And my, was “Big Hollywood” a lot funner when it was Nolte and the boys at DHP blogging movies and not a bunch of pseud-celebs. Granted some is interesting and some is not, but I sure miss the Libertas/DHP days. Feels too long ago.
Mary Matland and James Carville prove that love REALLY is Blind.
I was just thinking the over the weekend how much I missed DHP. Big Hollywood is fine and all, and I am glad it was created, but I miss DH’s insights on other things – which he doesn’t do at Big Hollywood.
Also, my jaw was dropping when reading the “Lay off Janeane” post. Whether she is putting on an act or not, I would not be spending any time with her to find out. I tend not to waste my time on people who calls me and mine vile names.
BTW: It is spelt Mary Matalin.
OUTLAW HERE: I thought it was spelt Mrs. Carville
I read the post and was going to offer my viewpoint but by the time I skimmed the 150 comments before me I felt bad for the guy getting his ass handed to him so I just dropped him a line saying I thought he seemed like a cool guy. His Intense Debate profile even said something about him getting killed in the comments.
And I miss Libertas and DHP’s as well. The old Libertas site still has the post from last summer about them going on hiatus.
Yeah, he did a Tweet for help after his post turned rancid.
Sure, he’s probably a nice guy and he’s worked in Hollywood too long. But it doesn’t do good to nod your head and turn your shoulder every time a schmuck calls you a racist. Sooner or later, people will believe the schmuck is right.
I like BH all the same, I think it’s a valuable resource – there needs to be some cultural offensive undertaken by the right. At the same time, I miss what the old sites were about and I don’t think they’ve been adequately replace. Someone needs to fill the void and Threedonia is about as close as it gets to this point.
As long as we don’t go off on a summer hiatus. Those things seem tough.
I went on a summer hiatus once and we all know how painful that can be.
You should feel bad for him…if you won’t stand for something you’ll fall for anything.
I kept thinking about the old “dozens” comeback — “Get off my Momma cuz I just got off yours.” when reading the post title.
My theory — Janeane gave it up to this guy and he’s carrying her water.
“Better wear a rubber dude.”
“WHAT?!?”
“She gets around…if you know what I mean…like a record baby.”
I saw that post over at Big Hollywood. I thought of responding over there as well, but I figured most of the 240+ comments probably already said what I thought of adding. Glad to see there’s a small break-out group on this here at threedonia.
When Tom Shillue hears Janeane trash conservatives maybe he thinks, ‘Well, I’m not one of those kinds of conservatives. She obviously isn’t talking about me.’
I got breaking news for you, Mr. Shillue, if you believe in the right to own and bear a firearm, if you believe in the right to express your faith in the public square, if you believe in the right to peacefully assemble to express your dissatisfaction with government spending and taxation, if you believe that the federal government should be limited by the Constitution, then Jamean Garofalo Does. Not. Like. YOU. She thinks you are a “tea-bagging, racist redneck” with the brain of a lizard that “impinges on your frontal lobe.”
If that’s the kind of person Mr. Shillue likes hanging with … well, I don’t want to know about. There are people who get off on being stripped to their BVDs, tied up and whipped, … I don’t want to know about them either. So … there ya go.
There are only two explanations for what Jamean Garofalo said about those participating in the Tax Day T.E.A. Parties. 1. She believes every word of what she said. OR 2. She doesn’t believe it and is saying hateful, despicable things in a news opinion arena, not a comedy club, about people exercising their Constitutional Rights just to make a buck. Either way, she’s not a very nice person.
