This Week's Trailer Park Round-Up

Greetings, Threedonia! This week, for your viewing pleasure, we’ve got trailers for animated trips to the Land of the Dead, Christian Bale shooting it out with injuns, comedic yuppie murder mysteries and more! Hit the jump to see them all.

1. Coco
Pixar’s latest, a Dia De Los Muertos-themed animated film about a young boy named Miguel who gets pulled into the Land of the Dead and goes on a supernatural adventure with his late relatives. Early reviews have been very positive, and this looks to be a fine and visually beautiful family film. Voices include Benjamin Bratt and Gael Garcia Bernal.

2. Hostiles
A longer trailer is out for the new western starring Christian Bale as an Army captain who must escort a Cheyenne chief (Wes Studi) and his family through hostile native territory. Think the 3:10 To Yuma remake, with more tomahawks. The director, Scott Cooper, is an expert storyteller (Black Mass, Out Of The Furnace, Crazy Heart) – hopefully he will be able to pull this story off without getting too PC. Also stars Ben Foster, Rosamund Pike, Adam Beach and Stephen Lang.

3. Game Night
A group of yuppie friends playing a fake murder-mystery game together unexpectedly become part of a real kidnapping-murder plot without realizing it. This looks like a genuinely funny black comedy, like a slightly darker version of Horrible Bosses. Stars Jason Bateman, Rachel McAdams, and Kyle Chandler.

4. Maze Runner: The Death Cure
The third installment of the Maze Runner series, about a group of teenagers who are pawns in a violent game to find a cure for an apocalyptic virus. Stars Dylan O’Brien, Walton Goggins, Patricia Clarkson, Giancarlo Esposito, and Barry Pepper. Wes Ball has directed all three films.

5. Dark
A new Netflix series about a small German town in which children have been disappearing, which may be connected to some strange time loop phenomenon. Looks like a more European take on Stranger Things, which might be interesting. Hits Netflix on December 1st.

  • Kyle Chandler doing comedy — nice! Dig seeing his old buddy Landry in there, too.

  • RE Hostiles, I hope for a good movie…definitely will give it a shot, unless I hear something negative in the meantime.

  • Dr. Schplatt

The Pixar flick just doesn’t look the least bit interesting to me. I am, however, a sucker for a Western so Hostiles might be something worth catching. Game night seems like one of those things you wait to hit Netflix and then watch when you’re really bored. The first Maze Runner was horrifically painful so I never saw the second nor will I see the third. The book was dull as well. Dark? I didn’t get into Stranger Things all that much so I don’t think it’s for me.

I am very attracted to the aesthetic of Dia de Los Muertos art. I was recently in San Diego and was thrilled to stumble onto and into a Dia de Los Muertos store!

I’ll probably see this if any of the Little Fireflies has an interest.
