<em>I certainly know some people whose main reason for supporting Obama is his race</em>

If this were true, then the black Republicans who have run would have gotten the same treatment. I submit the journalists are operating from a a modern marxist mindset where race = class. That's why Obama wouldn't even be in this race if he hadn't been in Wright's church, and didn't "community organize" ACORN.

<em>Unlike Whittle and many others, I don’t see a vast, left-wing conspiracy. </em>

Right. It's not exactly a conspiracy if it's right out in the open. Then it's just straight out kick in the balls war.

There's been some talk of a "cold civil war" in the blogosphere, and I'm beginning to agree. It will be a miracle if the various stripes of right wingers don't consider this election in the same way the Democrats considered 2000.

JohnFN,

I agree that "white guilt" is a factor in some of the Obama support and I certainly know some people whose main reason for supporting Obama is his race, and their desire to show they are non-racial and so, ironically, treat him differently because of his race. It's a positive differnce, yes, but it's still different and I guess that's also racism. Wacky.

However, I'm fine with journalists diving in Palin's dumpster. Dive in McCain's, Biden's and Obama's. It used to be journalists, especially print journalists, prided themselves in being loathed and feared by the powerful. One of my favorite books by a journalist is Mike Royko's, "Boss." Royko was a constant thorn in Mayor Richard Daley's side and both men were Democrats. Royko thought his job was to be the voice of the little guy and keep the politicians honest and he never let party affiliation get in the way of that.

Who are the modern journalists who do that?

<I>But I also don’t think the press have been hard enough on McCain. McCain’s had a long, public career and he’s a very honest, open person, so we know a great deal about him, but I can’t attribute that to the past 5 month’s press coverage.</I>

But covering that isn't as sexy as dumpster diving in Wasilla, or running rumors from Kos about the nature of Trig Palin's birth. A lot of it is outright bias, some of it is ratings oriented and readership oriented. They want numbers, and a thorough dissemination of the political life of John McCain isn't going to get that. But that's just a byproduct of the economic nature of the media right now. The real problem is the media is clearly in the tank.

Most liberal national journalists don't look at this as a balance point between keeping things even between one party and the other. They think they have the moral high ground and are doing just work by exposing some anti-intellectual like Sarah Palin. Having a minority candidate is enough to encourage them to dump any pretense of objectivity and you are seeing it for reasons I noted in a post earlier on this blog.

The major Washington press has gone from being about facts to being the arbiter of what they feel is the truth. That truth is, most whites are racist. And they are going to make up for that sin no matter what.
