Lee Iacocca, who helped design or put impetus behind the Ford Mustang, the Chyrlser K-Car, and the Chyrlser minivan, talked to Newsweek recently about the condition and state of his former company and what it will take to fix it.
It pains me to see my old company, which has meant so much to America, on the ropes. But Chrysler has been in trouble before, and we got through it, and I believe they can do it again. If they’re smart, they’ll bring together a consortium of workers, plant managers and dealers to come up with real solutions. These are the folks on the front lines, and they’re the key to survival. Let’s face it, if your car breaks down, you’re not going to take it to the White House to get fixed. But, if your company breaks down, you’ve got to go to the experts on the ground, not the bureaucrats. Every day I talk to dealers and managers, who are passionate and full of ideas. No one wants Chrysler to survive more than they do. So I’d say to the Obama administration, don’t leave them out. Put their passion and ideas to work.
Wise advice.

Precisely why President Hubris will never follow it.
An old war song comes to mind, “We’ve done it before and we can do it again.” Way before my time, but these words meant something then and they still would if anyone in DC really gave a rat’s a–! Lee was a doer, not a “think tanker.” He was on the board of directors for the company to which I gave 20 years of my time and efforts. Really a great man.

People who don’t have law degrees and who don’t live in the Imperial Capital can’t possibly be expert at anything. The best they can hope to achieve is to become a Community Organizer in the service of our Glorious Leader, the Messiah of The Holy Teleprompter (pbuh).
You’ve got to have a degree to be able to know anything, duh. Not that there’s not value in degrees, but I hate the idea that without the letters behind your name, you’re not worth listening to. I don’t think any of the founding fathers had a degree, but then their document was only 4 pages long. Obviously a fail.
Obama’s plan is not concerned about the companies of GM or Chrysler. It’s about pushing his green agenda. Americans only worry about using gasoline when costs are high. When costs are low, not so much. He’ll try to make us buy crappy little cars. He believes in global warming. We do not.
Good one,Tracy.Governor Al Smith of New York said that the letters after his name weren’t PhD,but FFM…Fulton Fish Market.
So somehow, all this auto bailout stuff falls back onto elitist pretensions and the defenestration of the middle class? Sounds about right in our current media and political climate.

sometimes it doesn’t matter even if you DO have the letters behind your name…
