Politics – Schmolitics, Part 1

Forgive me, Threedonia, but today I’m going to dump three incomplete posts on the site. The first two were written on July 26th, 2016, the third on February 8th, 2017.

The impetus was a tongue in cheek post I had written mocking University elites for missing the point on what’s important for young men and women and the economy. I used it as an excuse to poke some good-natured fun at Floyd (he had attacked Trump’s “Smoot Hawley” position on trade) and some here considered it not so good-natured, so I set out to better explain what I meant.

I could never quite refine what I wanted to say, so they’ve sat on my computer, gathering dust. Yet, back on July 26th I promised Threedonia I would provide an explanation, and I want to get them off my hard drive, so… Maybe they’ll spur some discussion.

It’s interesting. The second one is no longer even necessary. Trump’s actions as President have made my point in that post so clear that all but the leftists have figured out that much of his apparent madness is actually negotiation.

Anyway, they ramble a bit (O.K., a lot). Almost definitely in the TL:DR category for most folks here, but it’s something I’ve been trying to sort out for a few years and maybe throwing some spaghetti on the wall will help me get something al dente. Even if it does none of those things, at least it will satisfy the promise I made to Floyd nearly two years ago.
