Why on earth did Rooney thank President Obama upon being presented with the Vince Lombardi trophy?
-The president called in a pivotal play a la Richard Nixon.
-Two days previously, the president issued an Executive Order requiring that he be thanked first at all award ceremonies, public or private.
-It was an easy mistake to make: Rooney actually meant to thank not President Obama, but God. (The other One from whom all good things come). He regrets the error.
Loved how the media portrayed Rooney as some hero for supporting Obama – he was Republican after all. But for years Rush Limbaugh has been all but banned from the team’s facilities, though he’s probably their most famous fan alive. I had a famous local athlete claim he switched parties the last election in the name of Obama, then got upset when I told him I knew he was making local calls for John Kerry in 2004. They hate it when you ask questions like that.
Harrison’s reasoning is stupid, but hopefully this leaves a nice black eye for Obama and Rooney. Rooney shouldn’t politicize his sports team.
OK if I owned a sports team and someone of Rush’s stature was a fan I’d welcome them with open arms to the practices etc. Newt Gingrich is the biggest Packer fan out there and I don’t think the board would even contemplate keeping him away from Green Bay. How friggen ridiculous. And of course Rush won’t say a word being a man of class and coolness. Rooney you suck and your team sucks. Hows that. Weenie joiner.
Whoa, Steph, why’s the team suck? They’re just visiting the White House like most sports champs do. Did they suck when they went when Bush was in office?
