It doesn’t surprise me that more musicians, especially rock musicians, are not Republicans. What does surprise me is that they would back any party at all. Isn’t rock all about revolt, revolution, anti-authority? How is either monolithic, entrenched, PAC and lobbyist infested party anti-authoritarian? Aren’t both parties the bleedin’ definition of the authority all these poseurs pretend to rail against?
There is something so staid, boring and pedestrian about a rock star allowing a major political candidate to use his name, image and music to promote his candidacy. I remember when I saw Eric Clapton shill for Michelob. I lost a ton of respect for him. In the rock world aren’t the Donkeys and Elephants ten times worse than Michelob?
I just don’t get these people.

In theory, they all should be libertarians or, considering the rock and roll belief in stickin’ it to the establishment, Republicans. Black, white. Up, down, and in the words of Husker Du, makes no sense at all.
