Democratic Machine in Action

A transcript of a wire-tapped conversation between Roland Burris and Rob Blagojevich was released to the Senate ethics committee.  (Rob was the chief fund-raiser for his brother, disgraced ex-Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich.)

You can find several excerpts at USA Today.

A taste:

“I know I could give him a check,” Burris says. “Myself. … I will personally do something, okay.”

But Burris also cautions, “if I put on a fundraiser now … it has so many negative connotations that Burris is trying to buy an appointment from the governor for the senate seat.”

“God knows No. 1, I wanna help Rod,” Burris says. “No. 2, I also wanna, you know, hope I get a consideration to get that appointment.”

Burris opens the wiretapped conversation by telling Robert Blagojevich: “I know you’re calling telling me that you’re gonna make me king of the world.”

“And therefore I can go off to, you know, wherever and do all these great things,” Burris adds. He says that he has “been trying to figure out what the heck, you know, I can do.”

“We’ve had a number of conversations about, you know, anything you might be able to do,” Robert Blagojevich says a moment later.

Burris says he is concerned about how fundraising on his part would be viewed if he got the Senate seat.

“And I’m trying to figure out how to deal with this and still be in the consideration for the appointment,” he says.

“I hear ya,” says Robert Blagojevich. “No, I hear ya.”

Yes, and now we all hear you, Senator.  Loud and clear.

You sure that conversation wasn’t from the auto bailout task force?

How outrageous! How shameful! Oh, wait, we’re talking about Democrats? Never mind then. Nothing to see here. No controlling legal authority. Lots of people put $10,000 in their freezer. Oh, different guy? Doesn’t matter. This is just politics of fear. Hope and change, squawk! Give me a cracker, squawk!

That was a political opinion for parrots. Now, here is the political opinion for gibbons……….

  • Culture of Corruption: The Sequel — who’s gonna play Blogo and Burris? Oh, wait, Hollywood doesn’t make those kind of movies.

  • What’s sad is how “par for the course” this is here. Chicago & all of Illinois are run by idiots like this, as if it’s all some kind of game. What’s really sad is that the people keep electing these folks! (to the presidency, even!) Maybe it’s all too broken to fix at this point, anyway?
