I wont even watch it. I’m one of those who never thought Letterman was worth a damn. Now that’s age and bitterness has set in, its all so apparent.
I cannot believe what happened to this man that I was once such a big fan of. He’s really become evil.
I’ll never watch him again. It will be easy, since I almost never watch him now, he really isn’t that funny.
And he’s an ass.
Was a big Letterman fan back in the day, but his constant attacks on Bill O’Reilly turned me off. When your best retort in a debate is to say “someone smarter than me would handle you,” it doesn’t bode well for one’s intellectual repertoire. It was clear he had no clue what O’Reilly was or what his show was about (not that I am a fan of it either) but was acting out in a pure ideological way.
Letterman could be a member of the Gay Communist Gun Club for all I care, just be funny and take me out of life a little bit. If you are going to punch one side in the face, at least have he temerity or the balls to let the other side have it. No one will mention Joe “Gaffemaster” Biden on aire, but they’ll let Palin’s early-teen daughter have it. What a group of people.
Next time i hear Olbermann scream “How dare you, sir,” or John Riley ever shows his skull at Big Hollywood again, I’ll be thinking of Letterman.
By the way Dave, something tells me if Obama ever blew you off you would be much more conciliatory.

The thing that always appealed to me about Letterman was his simmering level of anger. He’s all smiles and cordiality and “Cheap stunts and plenty of ‘em” on the surface, but underneath that was some deliberately obvious annoyance with every one and every thing. He didn’t give a damn about most of the people he was interviewing, and we knew it, and they knew it, and that was part of the joke.
About 8 years in to the run of his show, he broke up with his long-term girlfriend who was also his head writer. The cheap stunts disappeared, and it was like they didn’t quite know what to do with his animosity anymore, and he just sort of became….boring. He became the thing he seemed to be parodying previously.
He’s an old man. He’s tired. He’s not as honest as he used to be. I *do* think he’d take a swing at Obama if Obama ever did something to upset him. He did take occasional swipes at Clinton, after all. But come on, admit it: There’s a new Late Night Comedy Android in town, and that’s Conan!
