Better Dead Than Touched in the Head?

Remember baby — some doctors do harm first.

This month marks a strange anniversary of sorts for me. It was 2 years ago this month that I was sitting in a chair looking at my unborn baby in 4D. She was precious! We had previously found out that our baby had several “markers” for down syndrome and had enlarged kidneys which may have required surgery upon birth. Thus we were monitored more carefully and had a ton more ultrasound shots at a hospital. This was the first level 3 ultrasound with this pregnancy (I had had one with my 3rd with no problems). I got to gaze upon my baby for almost a full hour – it was wonderful! I was there alone as my husband was out of town. The specialist doctor called me in after the ultrasound to go over the findings. The first words out of his mouth to me were “Well you will have to come in tomorrow for your abortion because of how far along you are.” I was utterly shocked and devastated. All I could do was mutter “What??????” He then proceeded to tell me that my baby had more “markers” for down syndrome and it didn’t look good. I was more shocked that his automatic assumption was that I would abort my baby. I almost couldn’t comprehend what he was telling me in that office. All I wanted to do was run as far away from that man as possible.

  • Very heartwarming story, with the exception of the doctor’s rush to push to abort.

  • I just read that before coming over here. She is very blessed that she ran.

I’ve met and counseled the other parents, the ones who chose termination and found their child was fine. Or even after the condition is confirmed, how much that decision haunts them. Living with that is much worse than watching their child “struggle” with life. That’s what many are told still, that they are cruel for considering “forcing” their child to live that life, to “struggle” and be taunted and abused.

People don’t believe that a drs belief about abortion has anything to do with them. So what if he performs abortions? I wouldn’t get one, so it doesn’t matter. Until the day you get the test that gives you the soft markers and he is either subtly or NOT pressuring you to do the thing you thought you’d never do.

The ones who wouldn’t though are the ones being targeted by the “choice” crowd. If they win, making the choice to carry your child, to give them a chance, to question the test, will be much more difficult.

Tracy, (doing my lib impression again)

What you don’t understand is that we have to puify the bloodline and gene pool so we do not have lesser people (like Republicans) among us.

      (Conservative again)

Good pointS Tracy. (The capital “S” was intentional) You are one of the reasons why Southern Women are the Best.

      • And what will Obama’s nationalized healthcare do to your right to go ahead and have the baby even if the baby is Downs? No care, increased cost care, told outright to abort or they’ll not care for and/or cover delivery costs??? Many unanswered questions in that cluster! If nationalized healthcare comes to fruition we’ll end up with no say at all, even about our own care.

  • From the story: “90% of babies diagnosed with Down are aborted”. Wow.

I didn’t know we had so many barbarians walking around loose like that.

If I was ever faced with that question from a doctor about my baby I’d look at him and smile and say, you know Hitler killed downs syndrome people to because they were useless mouths and would have no quality of life. How it feel to be in company like that. Then I’d leave and find a better doctor. One with MORALS!

Fritz- You have a serious comprehension problem. I am stunned with how stupid that comment is. I am embarrassed by your obvious lack of intelligence.

Stephanie- Your grip on Hitler astounds me. Maybe you should write a book on your vast knowledge on the concentration camps.

Kit- The only people that talk about purification of the bloodlines are Republicans. You people really are dumber than a box of rocks aren’t you?

“The only people that talk about purification of the bloodlines are Republicans. You people really are dumber than a box of rocks aren’t you?”

Examples? (And like Floyd said, legit Republicans)

  • Karen… provide even ONE example where Republicans in the last 30 years (and let me say a legit Republican — not some white supremacist douche-bag with a Republican voter card).

Don’t come here and drop your turd in our punch bowl and ad hominem… we like argument here so argue away, but that requires some facts — bring some facts — argue like an adult and you are welcome here.

For those who don’t know – my wife is eight months pregnant, she is due March 23. Her brother was born with a minor heart defect, one which was repaired when he was four to no further duress.

We notified my wife’s doctor of the defect on our first visit, who asked us to get a special ultrasound for precautionary reasons – no problem. Then came the question – if there is a defect, will we abort? What made the question worse – we were already well past the first trimester. The blunt and unison manner of our answer caught the doctor off guard.

I still can’t wrap it around my finger. My brother-in-law had this surgery 25 years ago, hasn’t had a problem sense. They were willing to hold surgery off until he was 12, so it couldn’t have been too dangerous of a problem.

There’s a good chance they can preform surgery in utero now to fix any defect. Fetal surgeries have been preformed for years, including heart surgery, if I’m remembering correctly. Abortion procedures are downright primitive, when compared against the sophistication of other surgical medicine. Abortion has next to no medical utility, so it’s almost as if methods have ossified, while the rest of medicine has advanced around it.

Congratulations John!! I’m glad you knew your answer before the question was ever asked. My dr usually asks what patients will consider before tests, but only because if abortion is an option, to help them find a different health care provider. He is hard core Catholic.
