Such hatefulness needs to be called out whenever, wherever, and however it occurs. For about 20 years, the media has uniformly cast violent pugnacious barbaric bigoted redneck morons in a bad light, and also just as uniformly as right wingers. I’m convinced that the main effect of his was to convince these poor benighted folks that their big mistake was being on the wrong side of the political spectrum.
This is the best explanation I can come up for the vomitous human detritus one occasionally finds by cruising the comments section of the Daily Kos et al.
