She became kind of kitsch and kind of a joke early on, but man… when she first appeared on the scene…
She’d show up on some TV show (“Harry O”) or in some movie (“Logan’s Run”) and you’d do a double take and say, “Who IS that girl?”
It was all part of being young in the 1970s. In mourning Farrah, we mourn our own youth. In joking about her slide into self-parody, we joke about our own slides.
Somewhere I have a picture of myself standing in front of an airplane that stood in the parking lot of a restaurant in Dodgeville, Wisconsin. The plane had been used in some commercial Farrah did, and she’d signed the fusilage. Don’t let me pretend it didn’t mean a lot to me just to get near her autograph.
She was that smile to. I wished when I was a kid I looked like her. Every boy I knew and the older guys to were crazy about her. The girls all wanted to be her. I don’t think she ever did Playboy. She never had to. Cool lady. Such a sad day.
She sure did do Playboy, Steph, sometime in the 90s. As the above photo semi-confirms, spectacular, um, I’ll let ya figure it out so I’m not accused of speaking ill of the dead. RIP, Farrah, and prayers to her family and loved ones.
She was on the cover of Playboy in the 80′s. Even though I always liked Jackie Smith better, she was quite the number back in the day.

I was a little to young to get her va-va-voom qualities on the first go ’round, but she was still a large and looming figure in my childhood. Not that I’m her #1 fan or anything, but if her obituary gets bumped off the front page by that damn scene-stealing Michael Jackson, I’m gonna’ be pissed.
