Question: Anyone see Charlie Wilson’s War? Watched it last night and I have to say I was surprised……very very very surprised.

  • Kit

    Question:

What does everyone think of the possibility that Obamacare will pass.

Do you think it is likely or unlikely.

  • Kit,

They will pass something. It will be expensive and ineffective, and the problems will get worse. Good times. . .

  • (From the earlier thread) I just wrote a great article about the amazing health benefits of cheese. Read more here: http://notarealink/justpokingfunatshamelessmarketing.com

  • This is a fascinating discussion.

Meet many more fascinating people at tallsinglewomen.com!

  • I thought I smelled a rat, but it was just the heady aroma of spam.

I just received an email outlining the field experience I need to complete for a mandatory education course in Diversity, and this is on top of the 36 hours of the actual classroom time. Shoot me in the head!

“Participants will complete a series of field experiences (totaling 15 hours) designed to give prospective teachers a perspective on the varied backgrounds of students in public, charter, or accredited private schools. Cohorts will meet together to discuss these experiences and to relate them to school situations.

    1. Visit a church other than the one you might ordinarily attend. Write a description of the service and list points of interest you observed. Attach a program from the service. 2 hours.

    2. Visit a park and observe the play of children. Notice any differences between one racial group and another. You may need to visit more than one park to observe several racial groups. Describe what you observed. 1 hour. (Yeah, like a grown man watching kids in the park will look real good – Matt)

    3. Watch television for several hours. Record the number of different racial groups represented. Then describe whether or not the representation seemed appropriate. 2 hours.

    4. Choose a religion and research it. Write a summary of what you found. Compare the religion to yours or one you have knowledge of. 2 hours.

    5. Interview someone who is openly gay or lesbian. Write a report on what you learned. 1 hour.

    6. Attend a session of court. Describe the various socio-economic groups you see there. 2 hours.

    7. Look at several magazines. Which cultural group(s) are most represented? Include such magazines as Sports Illustrated, Jet, Glamour, and Teen. You may include others if you wish. Describe any differences you observe. 1 hour.

    8. Go the Health Department. Describe the courtesy that patients receive. Or go the Emergency Room at a hospital. Describe any differences in how patients are treated. 2 hours.

    9. Visit a special school for children with disabilities. Write your observations. 2 hours.

    10. Observe a teaching demonstration to determine a teacher?s unintended bias. Did the teacher call on more girls than boys or more European Americans than Hispanic Americans, expect Asian Americans to answer more difficult questions, or tend to ignore students from lower socioeconomic groups? 1 hour.

    11. Interview a first-or second-generation American student to determine the problems or special challenges he or she faces in school. If possible meet with the family as well to learn what problems they experience with schools. 1 hour.

    12. Survey a number of elementary, middle, or secondary schools to determine the cultural composition of the student body. What has been the school?s response to meeting the needs of students? Cultural differences? What efforts has the school made to teach majority cultures about minority cultures and vice versa? 2 hours

    13. Some professionals and the general public feel that learners of minority cultures are overrepresented in special education classes. Meet with a special education teacher to discuss the concern of overrepresentation. 2 hours.

    14. Read Amy Tan’s The Kitchen God’s Wife. What differences in culture did you notice? 3 hours.

    15. Read a novel by Toni Morrison or Maya Angelou. Write a summary and your reaction. 3 hours.

    16. Meet with several educators to discuss ways that teachers may knowingly or unknowingly blame the student for learning problems, socioeconomic conditions, or language problems. What are the implications of this? Blame?? 2 hours”

  • We’ll pray for you, Matt!

  • Matt Helm

I’ll do my 15 hours in 15 minutes without leaving the chair I’m occupying right now. Some of this will be a good opportunity to get my views across. Let’s see, I’ll compare Islam with Christianity, they won’t like that one; the openly gay person I interview will be against gay marriage and let me in on the secret that it’s really just a feminist lesbian conglomeration; lots of black folks in the Jet magazine; the church I visit will be Floyd’s Sunday Gospel; and the several educators will come to the conclusion that they blame the parents and the gov’t for the kids’ learning problems.

  • Just saw on FOX, Sarah Palin is stepping down from the Alaska governorship. Not sure of the reasons, except not a scandal.

  • +JMJ+

Matt: After everything you’ve already written, #15 sounds like a bad joke. Who made that list of requirements? Oprah?

    • Matt Helm

You’d think. It’s a white woman. I actually take offense to this class because it assumes I’m a KKK member who needs to be deprogrammed.

  • David Marcoe

Just saw on FOX, Sarah Palin is stepping down from the Alaska governorship. Not sure of the reasons, except not a scandal.

Damn. Well, time to start looking somewhere else.

  • @ Matt – that’s crazy! What the hell state do you live in, and why haven’t you led an angry mob bearing pitchforks and torches to its capital, yet?

    • Matt Helm

Because being a racist by default through the eyes of the FL DoE already, I might just play into their game and be fired. They’re looking for any excuse to fire teachers so that they can replace them with good little diversity robots. I figure it’s better for the kids’ sake for me to grin and bear it, rather than their getting educated by one of these nut cases.

  • David Marcoe

So, Sanford’s gone round the bend and Palin’s going out to pasture. Time to look at Perry…

  • Kit

    Sarah Palin is resigning.

    %$%@#$#! ^%&#$&! %^%$^$%%^^&%#$^$%&%^!!%$%^!%^^!)((#$(#($#(#%#$(#$$)(#(!($%(^#@(^)$^(^%()#!%)(#$^)#%^&)$^@#$^^^%$%%$^%^$^&*^%$#@$%^&*(*&^%@@#@$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kit, too much time between now and 2012 to hang too many hopes on a person who was a long from announcing a candidacy, much less running for a second term as governor. Is it a blow? Sure. Is it world-shattering? No. Obama’s doing a nice job slitting his own throat. We just have to find someone who won’t hold back. Like I said, time to take a look at Rick Perry.

  • Kit

David, here is the wikipedia entry on the 2012 Election.

It includes possible candidates for 2012:

  • David Marcoe

Most of them are outliers or fantasy football picks. Now that Palin’s all but out of the contest, Perry’s the best positioned. Let me give one example of why: In 2008, 73% of all new jobs in the US were created in Texas. Things like that will have an effect.

  • Personally I think she’s making a shot across the Dem’s. bow for 2012. If she becomes President the first thing she needs to do is sign an executive order requiring all lesbians to shave their legs!

  • Stephanie

OK I haven’t read the artical but the hell is she quitting? WHY? WTF?!

  • She stated that with all the time and state money, plus 1/2 a million of her own money to defend against all the stupid allegations of impropriety in office, from the left, she can do more good for Alaska and the country by stepping down. It’s a lot more complicated than that, but no scandal.

  • David Marcoe

    Fritz has it.

  • You know the Dems. The ACORN lawyers descended on Alaska in droves when she was announced as VP candidate, just to manufacture dirt on her. Ya gotta love them. When they can’t dazzle ya with their brilliance, they’ll baffle ya with bulls**t! I’ll translate this to Russian for the socialists who may not understand this in English.

    ?? ??????, Dems. ????????, ?????? ????????? ?? ?????? ? ???????? ???????, ????? ??? ??? ???????? ??? ????-????????? ?????????, ?????? ??? ???????????? ????? ?? ??. ????? ? ??? ????? ??. ????? ??? ?? dazzle ?? ? ?? ???????, ??? ?????? ????????????????? ?? ? ???? ** t! ? ???? ????????? ??? ?? ??????? ??? ???????????, ??????? ?? ????? ?????? ??? ?? ?????????? ?????.

  • She’s resigning because she has bigger fish to fry.

  • Stephanie

No scandle for crying out loud. None at all. That sort of pisses me off because its such a default. Lowry thinks its because she is going to run for President. Either that or Senate. There is more to this move than meets the eye people and it has nothing to do with some scandle. I know thats hard to believe though……

  • She’s not gone, Steph.

    • Stephanie

Really GMAN? Here I was getting ready to go to a funeral. I was answering someone elses post. Didn’t realize I had to draw a map to it.

  • She’s resigning as Governor, but she’s not resinging from politics.

  • Kit

In my opinion: The attacks on her and her family and the mounting legal bills from the suits and accusations by the Gotta-Find-Or-Make-Up-A-Scandal Dems pushed her to resign.

  • Matt Helm

“Be careful with #5 also, Matt.”

fritz, I might just tell them that I’m gay and get all my points for the whole 15 hours nicely packaged and rapped in a bow, up front. Since I basically have to whore myself out to do all this stuff, it would be a hilarious way out (pun intended). I’m sure if I did that, I could say that the rest of the questions, especially the religious ones, were hate crimes against me. Why would I want to research a religion that wants my kind dead? I’ll be interested to see if the minorities in the class will have to apply the same principles toward the white folk.

I’m not a racist in any sense and have dated black women, but I’m a realist and pragmatist, and in a better position that these white liberals preaching tolerance, yet haven’t walked the walk themselves.

  • Kit

Say, where is Floyd, Rufus, and Wankette to do a post on Sarah Palin’s resignation?

In fact, they seem to disappear around noon.

  • Kit

Sarah Palin isn’t leaving. She is just kidding. She will change her mind. She will. Don’t worry, she will . . . THAT ——!!! WHY DID SHE LEAVE US?!?!?!?! WHAT THE F?!?! WTF DOES SHE THINK SHE IS?!?! WAIT! Gov. Palin, can we pay you something to make you stay? I could beat up Letterman. Oh its hopeless. We are doomed. The GOP is lost without her. ITS OVER!!!

    . . . . . . You know, I think we will get through, because, well, life ain’t over. :)

    5 Stages ;)

  • I’m thinking, Kit, that most of the mods decided to take the 4th weekend a bit early which they should. I’m sure someone will post something for tomorrow. If not this post will have the most comments in history.

As for Sarah. I heard that she was going to support Rick Perry, and that Kay Bailey Hutchins was running for his Gov. seat in 2010. This would give her a great chance to bone up for the VP seat and throw her support to Perry. That ticket would be almost indestructible.

  • Kit

    Rufus is Italian?

  • Sarah put the media on notice at the beginning. “I’m not here to be your friend.”

    She’s not done.

  • Fritz-
We need to get rid of Harry.

  • @ Matt – maybe I’m missing something here. How did they end up deciding you were a racist?

  • Matt Helm

They didn’t … I haven’t taken the course yet. What I meant is that the field experience topics seem to assume that those taking the course are racists, bigots, etc. that need to face other walks of life, assuming that we’ll come away with a different perspective i.e. tolerance and acceptance.

  • 54 comments and not a one on one of the greatest films ever made…pictured at the top of the page.

“You know it’s not the speed so much as all that cough syrup I drank before coming to work.”

  • @ Matt: Got it.

@ Outlaw: “I don’t think I wanna’ drive this cab anymore. And I KNOW I don’t wanna’ drive you around anymore!”
