30 years ago this day the infamous Disco Demolition Day riot occurred at Old Comiskey park in Chicago. Fans were offered entry in exchange for disco records and 98 cents. The disco records were blown up in center field then Chicagoans reverted to form, rioted, and nearly burned the place down. The White Sox forfeited the second game of the double-header to the Detroit Tigers. Good job Chicago — you were one step above Clevelanders and 10-Cent Beer Night.

Miss old Bill Veeck…
Why did the Chicagoans rush the field?
Why do Chicagoans do anything? Drunkenness, weed, and an opportunity to break stuff.
I was supposed to go to this with some buddies, but I got scheduled to work at my part-time, food service job slinging italian beef sandwiches and vienna hot dogs. I’m still jealous of my friends who went. I also missed the first Blues Brothers concert.
