I'm not saying Tesla is better than Protein Shake or whatever your guy's name is (I admit Proteus is a great name -- a middle name. I would've given one of sons Athos if my wife would've let me).

btw... is your real name James? :-)

Sure, why not?

But then I took a deep breath and walked it back from the precipice, remembering it's Google I should be mad at.

So, you hate him because a webpage honored him 50 years after his death?

I always thought Charles Proteus Steinmetz was a more important guy in terms of quantifiable accomplishments than Tesla, but that could be because I read a Scholastic Book Services book on Steinmetz when I was a kid. Plus, "Proteus" is the awesom-est middle name a guy could ever have. After "Stavro," of course.

Google gave a homepage shout-out to Tesla for his birthday, which instantly made me hate the guy. Every time they do one of those shout-outs, my first reaction always is, "oh sure, you do a special page for that, but not for Easter?"

To add: He was at once so brilliant and so flexible with the truth in his later years, scholars are left in the position are not being able to entirely disbelief some of his more fantastic claims. Tantalizing and frustrating.

Tesla was an enigmatic character. There scientists who will tell you today that the full extent of what Tesla knew and understood isn't known, even today. And the some results he achieved in his more esoteric experimentation haven't been replicated. The man was a textbook mad scientist.
