On this date 100 years ago Germany revoked its pledges to keep submarine warfare to belligerents and began its policy of unrestricted submarine warfare. This (and the Zimmerman Telegram a bit later) were the major triggers for Wilson to get Congress to declare war on Germany in April of 1917.
